K Kjbert I'm really curious what a roster priority announcement would look like.

"We are looking to sign a CAM DP."
"We are looking to bolster our defense and midfield."
"We are looking for replacements in every area we have key departures.
"We are looking to sign a CAM DP. But if a great striker DP or winger DP or #8 or #6 arises we will look to put the maximum talent on the field."

I'm not sure any of those statements would mean anything different from what we already assume they are doing. Am I close? Or what would you have them say?

Or

“Dear NYCFC Fan,

Thank you for being a fan. This winter, you may have noticed most of our top players left the club. We thought it was important to lay out our strategy and in what direction we are moving.

Youth is important to our mission. Players that have left are aging out yada yada and our scouting network is looking to build on prior successes. We have a DP spot, lots of AM, a U22 spot and so on. Yada yada.

Best,

David Lee”

Prior folks did this

The Athletic now reporting Callens to Girona. So looks like that really is happening.

he will be massively missed but honestly he deserves it. test himself at that level.

Hell yeah. Missed in so many ways...
First picture I ever got of my daughter with a player was Alex in 2019. Love it.
A picture I have in my mind was of Alex in the elevator at RBA as NYCFC was getting rolled by Charlotte last year. The doors opened and there he was, with a few people, and he had the most disappointed on the verge of hot anger look on his face. I waited for the next elevator.
Dude has such love and joy in his heart and an obvious passion to win. I wish him the best.
I wonder if this gives Sean even more reason to leave. Good lord this off season is tough.

In 12 months, we’ve let 4 of our 5 best players walk from the club and not a single penny has been brought in in transfer fees.

Bang up job by the front office.

who are those 4?

maxi - aged out.

callens and johnson - both free agents. could they have tried to get an extension last year? maybe. but it's difficult to do that when you don't know how much money you have to spend.

who else? santi? he was a loan to begin with and his loan ended.

i'm ok with callens going to girona. he deserves to play in a top league.

and calling it now. maximo carrizo league MVP 2023. *SMILE*

Based on the way Callens and Johnson have handled their negotiations this year, I doubt we could have reached a deal with either last year that would have saved any money.

Some people are lifers at their job. Some people jump every few years looking in their best interest to increase their salary or profile.

I don't see why this is any different. The guy knows he's nearing the end of his career, he sees an opportunity to maximize his potential earnings before retirement. Our team clearly weighed this and decided it wasn't worth it, but some other team is willing to take a punt on him on those wages, so good for him.

Sands - loaned out
Taty - loaned out
Maxi - walks despite our one year option
Callens - walks to a sister club

Johnson? TBD

Should have sold them. Like Matarrita and Ring before them
