he will be massively missed but honestly he deserves it. test himself at that level.
blame the salary cap. he wanted an earned raise, cap limitations prevent that.
Girona didn't take him from us. He wasn't coming back anyway. He (reportedly) wanted DP money, and we weren't giving him that.

First picture I ever got of my daughter with a player was Alex in 2019. Love it.
A picture I have in my mind was of Alex in the elevator at RBA as NYCFC was getting rolled by Charlotte last year. The doors opened and there he was, with a few people, and he had the most disappointed on the verge of hot anger look on his face. I waited for the next elevator.
Dude has such love and joy in his heart and an obvious passion to win. I wish him the best.

callens and johnson - both free agents. could they have tried to get an extension last year? maybe. but it's difficult to do that when you don't know how much money you have to spend.

Based on the way Callens and Johnson have handled their negotiations this year, I doubt we could have reached a deal with either last year that would have saved any money.

Some people are lifers at their job. Some people jump every few years looking in their best interest to increase their salary or profile.
I don't see why this is any different. The guy knows he's nearing the end of his career, he sees an opportunity to maximize his potential earnings before retirement. Our team clearly weighed this and decided it wasn't worth it, but some other team is willing to take a punt on him on those wages, so good for him.

Seems like a net positive to me - good players are willing to play for us because they know we will take care of them and have multiple avenues for getting them abroad.

Taty - loaned out
Maxi - walks despite our one year option
Callens - walks to a sister club
