Its not the City style of play, but I always thought playing a lot of long balls to Andrade would tend to create gaps in the defensive lines that would be perfect space for the skillset of our attackers to operate.

more like we didn't put him on the field or played the direct to him in behind ever again...

The players knew Thiago's speed and tried to play balls to take advantage of it fairly often when he was on the field. We don't remember them because defenders weren't going to be surprised by it and/or Thiago didn't do as well with the ball once he got in position as he did on that play. That cutback from him to finish his super goal was an anomaly, we all watched him enough to know he wasn't technical enough to do that consistently. Doesn't matter how fast a player is when that is the only thing they are going to try to do its pretty easy for the other team to shut it down.

Exactly this ^. We can easily change the name Thiago to Khiry in this post.

we did not play long balls or direct through balls to him as much as you think. even when he was on the field, which was really limited to 20 mins at a time, those long balls were few and far between. how many times do we watch the game and comment in the chat that we aren't playing more direct? we just don't. it's not our style and that's that.

could thiago had been better? of course. but let's not lie to ourselves and think we tried to play him through balls all the time and he just never did anything with it.

i'm not mad he got loaned out or anything. it's not our style to play that ball. i'm ok with that. but i think he added a dimension that we should have taken advantage of even if he wasn't finishing every chance. as Sabo said, that threat in behind creates space for everyone else. We just failed to play that ball to make it an actual threat.

They played balls in behind a lot in the opener this year once he moved to striker. He just hasn't had a ton of minutes this year.

Had he been a better shooter he might have gotten those minutes. Just never seemed to really be able to get his feet right.

Still, I always thought he was valuable as a second half sub. Bring him in at 60' 0r 75' and let him run on the other side's tired legs and pull them out of shape, and suddenly you can find yourself with an opportunity to score. If he can complete the pass.

Hard to say, but did anyone get the vibe that he’s dissing Thiago’s off the field vibe a bit? Maybe it’s more generic and less cynical than I took it

seemed that way to me. thiago didn't fit with the group for one reason or another. probably why he didn't get more playing time and why they decided to let him go.
