And if we've made the (quite reasonable) decision that better players will be available in the summer window, so we need to wait until then, that's fine.
Abramowitz said on one of the pods rather definitively (FWIW, maybe absolutely nothing) that two strikers and a CB are incoming, so it will be interesting to see if there is some sort of worth the wait moment or not.

I'm sure there are targets. And I'm sure the operating parameters are pretty narrow, too -- we threw over the table and went young, so it only stands to reason we're looking exclusively at young strikers (under 24 years old, max). The pool may not be as big as we're assuming it is. But it also may be a lot more well-defined.

Any way around it, Lee is a little hamstrung until Taty's situation truly resolves. Ideally, a permanent move will be completed by the end of the month rather than another loan. Mitrita comes off on June 30 too, which both eliminates an ongoing headache and frees up a chunk of money.

So, come July 1 the math should be clear. The summer window opens July 7 and runs to Aug. 4. And then we'll see.

There's also nothing stopping us from doing a deal now, the new player just isn't eligible to play until July 7. But with the European seasons now over, the negotiations should be happening.

I'd be very, very surprised if there aren't conversations happening all the time. But we can't do a deal without a guaranteed open slot. We can't just spend money like an independent club in association football.

So, we have to find a new home for Taty. Or complete a permanent move to Girona. Until then, we're a little -- and just a little -- stuck. We can negotiate the numbers, but we can't put pen to paper.

Are we maybe learning that the players most crucial to the success of NYCFC and winning the cup were brought in prior to Lee?
A few people have made this point. Here are the players Lee signed prior to the Cup run:

Keaton
Heber
Gray
Thor
Acevedo
Jasson
Amundsen
Alfredo
Andrade
Magno
Santi

And resigned/extended:

Chanot
Tinnerholm
Parks
Shradi
Taty

Seems a lot of key pieces for our title are on these lists. People may be angry over Lee's performance this year, but dismissing his contributions to 2021 just seems like revisionist history.

Keaton and Heber were signed while Reyna was Sporting Director.

That’s why I said most crucial. And sure that’s still a debatable point.

Keaton made it on one list and Parks made it on the other

And like that we look forward to 2024.

6-8 weeks means a return to full training between July 18-August 1. So let's say he's ready to return to games by August 20, he would only miss 8 more regular season games. If he's back August 20, we have 10 games left when he gets back.

This is not good, but it could have been a lot worse and is not a season death-knell.

I get it but this is why I’ve yet to buy Apple TV or watch a single game live this season . I just follow on my phone and watch highlights on YouTube . The team has made it clear they don’t care about this stage of the season so why should I ?

Thank you. All in, my fandom probably costs me $5,000 a year. I’m a nobody to them. But when you don’t communicate a plan for improving the roster, it’s tough for me to just sit back and say “oh well”

Dont' get me wrong, i don't think this roster is capable of top of the table. I think we should be good enough to make the playoffs, which this season is 9th place in the conference and consistent with what mgarbowski pointed out. We are currently bottom quarter of the conference and league table. With this roster, I think we should be doing better. that's all i've been trying to say.

And if we were 9th place two years ago, that would be out of the playoffs.

The only thing that changes is they added more playoff teams.

M moogoo will tell you that the injury is OK because Cushing has the pieces on the bench to replace our DP CB.

Wait til Chanot misses 3 weeks in July.

You’re right there will still be 10ish games when he returns. But at that point will it be salvageable? That’s debatable and I’m in the camp of, we will be a first round out in the Playoffs. Is that good enough for a team that’s seemingly prioritizing playoffs over other competitions? I don’t think so

Martins injury is very bad news IMO. We have zero quality depth there, and old man Chanot is almost certain to miss games here and there (hopefully at worst).

Summer window can't come soon enough. Get a quality 9 in there and see if we can beat teams 4-3...
