2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Are you considering both Talles and Jovan as sufficiently off our books we can replace them? If not I can’t make the math work. Very possible I’m missing something as I did with the Sands injury.

My understanding of the rules is that we can sign new DPs but if we wanted to bring Talles or Jovan back, we couldn't register them if a new player is taking their DP spot. So yes, if we wanted to sign new players to replace Talles and Jovan, we just wouldn't be able to have those guys return to the roster.

I don't think that is accurate. When Taty's loan at Girona finished before the Lazio transfer happened, the league office actually gave NYCFC a wavier because Taty was suppose to be back on our books.

Worst case scenario, Talles can be bought down, but hes cooking right now in Brazil so I dont think its something to worry about.

The only positive between the two articles is Doyle putting Ojeda as his pick for Young Player of the Year. And this was all written before Santi was sold.

ASA NYCFC Preview by Paul Harvey

Written while Santi was expected to go. tl;dr - It might not suck but don't get your hopes up.

Ojeda is the player I have the highest hopes for, but Young Player of the Year is a bold prediction. He has the skills and plays in a way that complements our offense. He still plays like he's adjusting to the speed of MLS if Pascal can help him speed up his decision-making he could be a player for us.

I'm interested to see if Pascal in general can get the offense flowing better than it did under Cushing. Aside from a few outlier games like the Tigres match our offense was mostly dysfunctional under Cushing. Was that a personnel issue or a tactics issue? Ojeda and Wolf both look like the type of players that create offense through interplay with other attackers if Pascal can get things flowing we could see breakout years from either one of them or both.

These numbers provide a helpful reference.

What's worse to me is that Lee spent enough at the end of 2023 and the start of 2024 to be 4th on that list had he done it this season and we got nothing for it:

Jovan $8.5M
Ojeda $7.5M
Fernandez $5M
Bakrar $3M

Teams spend money at different times but to spend that much and have nothing to show for it over a year later is horrible.

Similar to what I said yesterday. Lee gambled his stash before this offseason. I believe the tweet is misleading in that respect, though not necessarily in a way that substantively matters.

gio has all the potential in the world, but the kid is made of glass. add to that the potential for drama and nah. we don't need that locker room headache. not to mention, with how they left, i wouldn't be surprised if they would reject any offers from us. If anything, they'll probably try to get him to another team in europe.

Defensive/central midfielder on around the same contract as Sands. Former Red Bull and an MLS lifer which means our front office will want nothing to do with him, but definitely would be a solid veteran presence on the roster.

Nope. No Red Bulls players who've had minutes on the field during the derby, sorry.
