2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Sentimentally, I've enjoy Jack back here with NYCFC but do we need another winger? No. We need a 10, 6, and maybe a 9.

We don't have any good wingers.

i am hopeful malachi will come back with a vengeance, so the left side should be good. the right side is where jack would end up. but that would displace wolf and fernandez will live on the bench unless wolf started playing more as a #10. but i think our priorities should be to get a DP #10. If jack wants to come back and we can get him cheap, then i'm all for it. He'd probably be more effective than Wolf, i think.

Same here, but he's been at around $5 million per, so we'd have to do some work. Would he be worth a DP spot? If he is, do we have a possible workaround in-house for a playmaking midfielder? Do we have any idea yet how daring Pascal is willing to be?

This could get intriguing.

For me, he's not worth a DP spot. As much as I love Jack, I don't think he's the player who can take the team on his shoulders and carry us when we need it. That's the type of player I think we need for our DP. Someone who is going to contribute every game and influence the game in a very positive and impactful manner. Much like prime maxi. If Jack were raphinha level, then yes. DP him up and get him.

we've already committed to the u-22 model, so we only have 1 DP spot to use. we need to use it well or this season is gonna be a struggle.

Can’t count on Malachi in 2025, unfortunately

Makes sense. Although I must say, locking him in at right wing with Malachi on the left and Zo at striker for the run into and through 2027 makes a certain kind of sense, too.

But it's useless if there's no playmaker. So, yeah. If we're going to burn a DP, it should be on our next Maxi.

he's a question mark for sure. but if he can regain the form he was showing before his injury and develop from there, he'll be really dangerous on that left wing. He's got pace and good feet and plays without fear. His decision making needs work but that's what development and experience is for.

Definitely a question mark, but I am hopeful.

I was hoping he'd be further along by now. He might not be back to full strength before the summer.
Same, thought he would be around pre season but even when he comes back it’s gonna be hard for him to jump back into the progress he was showing last season. He was raw before, now he has to learn to trust his body again.

Having said that, after watching the Onside episode, have no doubt he will fight like hell to find form, plus improve from last year It stil is a process. I view anything we get from him at the back end of the season as gravy.

I think some of you are wildly undervaluing Harrison. In his last MLS season at 20 years old, he had 10 goals and 3 assists. At 19 he had 4 goals and 6 assists, actual production, not this hope/wish/think they will be good even though they have done absolutely nothing copium people keep projecting on Fernedez and Ojeda.

Jack has since gone on and developed enough to earn consistent time in the premier league. He would be a massive upgrade over Santi and our current wingers. At 28 he's still in his prime. Obviously, CAM is a bigger need but I'd much rather Harrison over any typical Lee DP signing. If we go off Lee's track record we will end up with some CAM from a CFG affiliate club that makes barely over the DP threshold. Heck if Lee didn't waste a DP spot on an overpriced slightly above MLS-average CB we would be in a position to get Harrison and a DP CAM.

I think you are totally right. A guy who is hard-working and starting caliber in the EPL, even on a weak EPL team, means a guy who would be close to elite in Serie A, Bundesliga or La Liga, for example (remember Everton's budget would be top5 in either of those leagues probably) that is 200% a successful DP in MLS. If you can get him, you get him and your teams gets much much better.

Don't forget Jack is also a former NYCFC player. Not only would he be tearing the league up, he will also have already had a connection to us - meaning that it wouldn't be a new DP getting used to the derbies and teams - he's already been here and will already have that fire.

I would love that.

Hell to the yes on this one. Bringing Jack back would be incredible. Have to doubt it actually happens, but that would be an incredible signing.
To be clear, I think landing a new, young playmaker should be our priority. But I'd take Jack in a heartbeat myself. And as I alluded to above, with a guy like that on the wing, we might be able to work with what we already have to create an attack.

I'll say something else: a 28-year-old winger with extensive Premier League experience is exactly the kind of signing we need. We have enough young guys. We need a veteran baller. It's time to start winning games.
(I)f Lee didn't waste a DP spot on an overpriced slightly above MLS-average CB we would be in a position to get Harrison and a DP CAM.
I don't think this is fair. Martins is much better than slightly above average, and much more important to us than you're giving credit. He's one of the best CBs in the league at advancing the ball, and he's one of the best at getting back to squash counters.

In club football, he wouldn't be one of the highest-paid players on the squad. But it's a different story in the MLS environment. The payroll dynamics aren't a straight-up money-for-value proposition because it's so tightly restricted. His DP compensation is top shelf for us, but about where he would be in Europe, so I don't think we can call him overpriced.

(By the way, he's out of contract at the end of the year. Just sayin' ... )
