2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

I think some of you are wildly undervaluing Harrison. In his last MLS season at 20 years old, he had 10 goals and 3 assists. At 19 he had 4 goals and 6 assists, actual production, not this hope/wish/think they will be good even though they have done absolutely nothing copium people keep projecting on Fernedez and Ojeda.

Jack has since gone on and developed enough to earn consistent time in the premier league. He would be a massive upgrade over Santi and our current wingers. At 28 he's still in his prime. Obviously, CAM is a bigger need but I'd much rather Harrison over any typical Lee DP signing. If we go off Lee's track record we will end up with some CAM from a CFG affiliate club that makes barely over the DP threshold. Heck if Lee didn't waste a DP spot on an overpriced slightly above MLS-average CB we would be in a position to get Harrison and a DP CAM.

I don't doubt that Jack would be a solid signing and I would love to have him back, but I just don't think he's worth a DP spot. DP spots should be used on big impact players. Lee already broke that rule signing Martins as a DP though, so I suppose anything is up in the air.

If the choice were to sign an unknown as a DP with hopes on his potential or sign Jack, then Jack all the way. That is my biggest fear; that Lee will go out and sign a young DP that is unproven and will not move the needle for us because he's "young, raw, and needs to develop"

(By the way, [Martins]'s out of contract at the end of the year. Just sayin' ... )
I think IF we sign Jack, it's with this in mind. It's an acknowledgment that this is a non-competitive year and next year is the year we sign a 10.

Now Lee has shown a willingness to deliver a non-competitive product, but I don't think he does this simply because it buries the talent Pascal is supposed to develop.

AH yes, Martins contract expiring end of this year, which means we'll probably get some "big news" of "our captain has resigned!"

I will take Jack over a teen to early 20's prospect from South America or the Balkans all day long.
I would take Jack over every current player on our team and likely any prospective player Lee is probably considering. Maybe Alonzo or Freese would be worth a second thought, but we do not have a roster of players at his level.

I think if this is an noncompetitive year, David Lee is out of a job. I don't think he wants to be out of a job. So I think he will try to make this a competitive season.

CFG was willing to make 2023 a rebuild/retool year. But I think firing Cushing was an acknowledgement that they won't be willing to do it 2 out of 3 years.

There were questions submitted to David Lee and Brad Sims for videos before the home opener. The Brad Sims video was made. I’m not so sure the David Lee one will be made 😆

Anyone can build a great roster, it’s only the exceptional ones who can lead the league in GAM
We definitely have plenty of dry powder and the slots to spend it on. And I personally like what Brad had to say about the process; I think he's right about MLS roster dynamics, and I love what he said about clubhouse character.

Hire for attitude, train for aptitude (assuming the talent is there to begin with, of course).

The one thing I wonder about is the length of time it takes to fill a need. I get it, the math is super tricky. It's not just a matter of finding the right guy and the right number and then plunking a bag of shekels on an agent's desk like in association football. And we're contra-scheduled, which adds yet another dimension.

But we have a global scouting network to leverage. I'd love to know if David keeps a shadow roster on file, or if he begins the process of addressing a need when they arise.
