2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Hello everyone. Can you tell me where I can see the current cast of NYC 2? Thank you!

the website isn't updated, so best way to see the roster is to just look at a prior game lineup and see who's listed. there is some overlap with some first team home growns, but the rest are NYCFC II players.

If I had to guess we are having an Heber situation. We decided to wait and see what we had and what Jansen wanted. And now that Lee has a shopping list, only the picked over fruits are still at the store. So anyone we bring in will be a 4 or 5th choice because we waited too long. And at that point it may just be better to wait till the summer. Pick your poison: 1) stick with our current team and hold on tight for the roller coaster. Or 2) bring in someone who may be another hit or miss.

Additionally, teams are probably less likely to let someone go with this short of time left in their season. I have a feeling we teed up 2 or more players that will be quickly brought aboard in the summer window.

I wouldn't be so sure they will do it quickly. In 2023 we desperately needed offensive reinforcements, and they diddled around for 2 weeks before making the first signing, while a bunch of other MLS clubs had stuff lined up to go on the day the window opened.

I also don't buy that there are too few options right now. Certainly, European clubs aren't likely to let a player go right now, but MLS is not the only league that runs on an alternate calendar.
  • Brazilian Serie A: May – December
  • Liga MX (Mexico): August – December
  • Scandinavian Leagues: March to October/November
Given the depth of their scouting networks, they absolutely should be able to find players right now to fill a few holes. I can understand holding out for a DP to get exactly who they want, but not even adding a few quality depth players that are good enough to push for a starting role is just negligent.

Absolutely -- and all those leagues are at least at the level where we can find an impact player. Especially Brazil and Mexico. There is absolutely no reason for us to stay quiet this window other than paralysis by analysis, which seems to happen all too often in our front office.

During training camp we all debated why they were waiting until early in the season before making moves. It was because Pascal needed time or they didn't plan on Santi leaving. Now it's because the players aren't available. Until they prove otherwise, they don't make moves because they don't want to.

inter miami getting stuff done and they already have fairly stacked roster... and yet here we are with crickets.

absolute nonsense.

Wait they have a new coach too. Don't they have to wait for him to get a feel for the squad only to find out it's too late to find players? How are they doing this?

to be honest, this might have to do with the fact that no one wants to come play for us. having the ex barca 4 on the squad makes it very easy to entice players to come to miami. what do we have to offer? we have no stadium. we have a coach with no name recognition. we have no super stars on the roster. unless someone just wants to live in NYC, we don't really have something to sweeten the deal.

how does Lee sell the club to a player? maybe a lot of players just have no interest in coming to play for us. not an excuse though for not signing players though. he has to do better.

Players from the Vieira era often mentioned joining the team to learn from him or because he personally reached out and convinced them.

I believe Lee simply isn’t trying to sign new players right now. It seems like he—or CFG—wants to maintain the current attacking core to ensure Ojeda and Fernández get playing time. He’s repeatedly stated this since last season:

  1. At the end of last season, he called the roster strong—despite likely knowing all departures except for Santi’s.
  2. During training camp, he emphasized not wanting to block player development.
Lee went all-in on Jovan, Ojeda, and Fernández. He even fired Cushing for not playing them. Jovan has already been a miss, so Lee is banking on Fernández and Ojeda panning out. His best hope? Giving them enough playing time to develop.

If he brings in an elite CAM, what happens? Maxi, expected to be a super sub, will initially go to the bench, but soon enough, Pascal will prioritize winning and field his best players. That will push the new CAM or Maxi to the wing, and Ojeda and Fernández will be back on the bench just like last season when we had Santi and Maxi. Lee won’t let that happen—at least not until the second transfer window.

We play in New York City. That's a lot more enticing than we probably give it credit for.

Our lack of signings is not because we aren't an enticing team to play for.

i love NYC, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Many would rather live in LA or Miami. Or even a quieter life in a place like columbus. I'm just saying miami might have an easier time signing players with their star power on and off the field.
