We really shouldn't blame the coach for this game, as much as poeple want to make Ronny the boogieman for the season. We played probably the nicest stuff of the entire season for large stretches of this game -- should have clearly had 3 goals in the first 30 minutes, and never let off the pedal. Aside from the god-awful finishing, it was a dominant game.
I know we're in the middle of the season at this point, but I feel like I'm still in a position where I care more about process than results. Because if the process is good, the results will be there in the end. This was the closest we've looked to 2019 NYCFC, so the process was great tonight. If we play another 13 games like that, we'll be right where we want to be in the standings.
One thing I do want to criticize Ronny for: Where was Mitrita? This is a game where the opponent isn't even trying to attack, and you don't use Mitrita? If you're not going to use Mitrita in this game, is he completely out of the rotation? If he's not used tonight, when will he be used. I'm also kind of over Alex Ring as a winger. Guy can't finish, and isn't a good passer in the attack. Ring's a great player for us, but he's being played out of position because it seems like Parks and Sands have supplanted him on the D-mid depth chart. So we either have to change formation or play him out wide in order to get him in there.
And I'll end with this tweet from Ian. Unbelievable that we didn't win that game.
