Really should have been 3-0. That goal at the end was a ton of good fortune for RB and an LA team knowing they had already won. After the 3-1 drubbing by LA, New Jersey are next to last in the East and 19 of 22 overall in goal differential at -6.
The Times doesn't even regularly cover local soccer, so for them to take the space to write that....The NY Times weighs in with harsh words about the state of the Red Bull nation - less about the team and results than about the project as a whole, including the fans.
In past seasons, Major League Soccer has rolled out the red carpet for matches featuring the Red Bulls and the Los Angeles Galaxy — or, in viewership terms, Market No. 1 versus Market No. 2.

Sunday night’s game at Red Bull Arena was no different. Except that as the predicted showers initially held off and vibrant sunshine instead beamed down, it soon became evident that this game was, in fact, a little different. Empty seats outnumbered occupied ones, and the stadium buzz was more of a murmur as the Red Bulls’ supporters section valiantly rolled through its usual songbook.

Very true. So we just need to get top players in top form, easy! Why give a damn about LA vs NJ when you have LA vs NYC? But that's also a little warning to ourselves. That as much as us diehards would love 3 underage DPs (that sounds dirty, but I can't remember the real term), we need star power in NY to make this work.
It sums up Kljestans completely - he needs other players to carry the water in order for him to even remotely be effective. It's why he'll never be a MNT regular- everybody has to carry their own weight. Here's a fairly interesting take on how the RB midfield has been impacted by the exit of Dax.

Every player is only as good as the guys behind him. A good CDM makes the rest of the midfielders better. Good midfielders make the forwards better. It's why mix never had a chance here. He never played with a decent CDM.It sums up Kljestans completely - he needs other players to carry the water in order for him to even remotely be effective. You had me until you got all Mix-ish again. Even if I agreed that he never played with a decent CDM, the lack thereof would only represent one of many possible failure modes. I wanted Mix to be good, but his spatial awareness isn't sharp enough. And he would not make this 11 regardless of cap hit. And that's pretty cool.Every player is only as good as the guys behind him.
