Cfg Commitment To Nycfc

Can I just add myself and kids have had the privelge of meeting Mr Mubarak on several occasions he is an absolute gent and any question s we asked him he just answered honestly ,he even told us why they had bought city.he is totally approachable considering his position in the abu Dhabi hierarchy.

That's really interesting to hear how approachable he is and impressive considering his position.

I get on a Metro North train and 8 minutes later, I get off and walk into one of the finest sport arenas in the country and watch professional football. All I wanted was a local top flight club in the city, I've got it. Commitment enough for me.

The first time we met him was by accident in the city shop just a few days after they had bought city.he had the full board of city with him and his advisors and security. He stopped dead in his tracks and talked with us for about 10 mins no questions off limits .as all the power people looked on.I asked him why they had bought city and not utd, barca,Madrid etc he said they would win things anyway but city was a project and his words were " we will make this the biggest club in the world "
I asked him again just before Xmas how it was. Going he smiled shook my hand and said we are getting there.

We are dead last in the league. Literally the worst team in the league. We have only won 2 games. It doesn't look like we are getting a stadium any time soon. Our "parent" club took our (2nd) best player for half the season. Our jerseys are an exact replica of City's kit. On the positive side we do have Villa, which is cool. I think it's understandable that we are questioning CFG's commitment to the club, and until I see actions to prove otherwise, rather than them constantly telling us that it's going to be great for us (great scouts, great resources, great relationship with City) I will remain skeptical of their ownership.
Did them putting up tens of millions of dollars to have a team in NYC put any commitment questions to bed? Rough crowd. I think our owners are committed to each team in the group without question

Wait a second, you think one of the main reason, and correct me if I am wrong, that CFG wanted a team in MLS, in NYC is simply to market Man City? As someone who knows marketing very well to say the least, and has a business degree, and has been in involved in pro sports as an athlete, you think CFG is only interested in marketing Man City as the sole reason to invest in a team in NYC/MLS. I can assure you, the money they are spending in MLS and the money they will be spending by building a stadium within the 5 boroughs, and everything else that goes with it, I CAN ASSURE you, if you take 1/10 of that money and simply do marketing for Man City, not only in NYC but all over the world, it would be better served. This is simply not the case.

CFG's whole goal is to number one be known as the dominant football organization throughout the world. And how do you do that? by simply saying look how great Man City is, you silly americans with kids, when your kids grows up and if he is good enough to play in the EPL, he better come to Man City, sorta like a recruiting tool? Or is it to try and pry some of the Eurosnob fans rooting for Man U, or Chelsea that live in NYC to come and root for Man City? Do you see how silly that sounds? I can go and on and on....the bottom line is again global domination from a football standpoint. CFG wants to be known as a the premier Football organization and you do that by building some of the top teams in the world within their respective cities and leagues.

What does this say about CFG, if this happens?

Man City - EPL Champions
NYCFC - MLS Champions

Insert another team here in other leagues - Champions

It tells you these guys don't mess around and that their system works. You don't make money owning a sports franchise by doing marketing, you make money of sports franchise by appreciation in value. But again to the Shaikh Mansoor's of the world really it isn't about making revenue as much as leaving a legacy. Believe me they have enough wealth. It's about building something special where ever they go.
Bravo

Very cool. Indeed his words are ringing true. Man City is indeed one of the bigger clubs in the world. Are they as good as Barcelona or even real madrid, no. But then again who is at this current time? Without question Man City is a top 5 club.

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Man U
Bayern Munich
Man City

To me these 5 clubs are the cream of the crop over the last few years. Sure you may have a Juventus or a Borrussia Dortmund who can compete on any given year and play for the champions league final but they still aren't in the realm of a power team as these top 5 are.

Like I said. Money means absolutely nothing to them. They already are spending an insane amount of money to market the City brand. So it's really not outside the realm of possibility that they view this as a new marketing experiment to give themselves an edge over everyone else. I'm not saying that's how it is. I'm just saying it's a possibility that they have yet to disprove. The fact we are wearing the same colors as Manchester City, and that they even tried to change Melbourne's colors doesn't help either.

But honestly I hope you're right. I want to see this team become a dominant force in MLS, and I want to love this ownership eventually.

No mate city were a shambles .when he said about making city the biggest club in the world.
Which made what he said more startling ,yet Here we are 5 years later this week we have been confirmed as the fourth biggest brand in world football, ahead of barca etc.
I sometimes wonder if people actually realise the true wealth and power of nycfcs owners.

What? Lol

Listen, we all would like to have local owners who are filthy rich and who grew up in NYC and want to name the team New York City or Empire FC or Liberty City FC or whatever, no doubt everyone would love that but that never happens in any sport in any city. The bottom line is this, Man City/CFG forked over a ton of money to own a team in MLS and to finally put a NYC proper team within the boroughs. To me this team represents NYC better then any other team in the history of NYC soccer, maybe with the exception of the Cosmos, I am talking about the REAL cosmos in the old garbage NASL days, as opposed to the new fake Cosmos playing in Long Island, in the New Garbage NASL. So we have a team with a New York City in its name, a team that plays in the Bronx, in Yankee Stadium for now. The logo was designed by fans, and its a damn fine logo at that. Sure the home jersey is man city blue but so what, it is still one of the better jersey's in MLS top 5 for sure, and the black one has nothing to do with Man City and IMO is the best jersey in MLS. I think we as fans get too caught up on the hidden agendas of team owners. Gee golly, they are not doing this genuinely, all they care about is making money etc etc....who cares?????????????

Enjoy your NYC team, enjoy rooting for them and enjoy the ups and downs. Goodness, when I was a kid rooting for the Knicks and Rangers, Yankees, Giants, I had no idea who the owners were and never cared, and to this day still do not. The truth is those teams represent my city the best in their respective leagues, to me anyway. Do I care that James Dolan is a shmuck that I wish would sell the team because I think he is HORRIBLE, of course I care, but that doesn't make me love the Knicks any less. This is a business without a doubt but CFG has proven they are an amazing run organization and to be associated with them is far from the worst thing ever. You can be Redbull, trust me that is much worse. CFG will turn NYCFC into one of the top teams in Concacaf no question. It will take time, but we will get there, in the mean time enjoy it man, stop getting so caught up in stuff that we as fans have no control over.

They brought us Villa, Mix, Lampard, and now it looks like Pirlo, they brought us one of the best coaches period in North America. Like a poster earlier said, goodness, you guys are tough crowd.

no doubt homie, Man City 8-10 years ago were in deed in shambles again goes to prove the point CFG is no joke.

Aside from the Lampard fiasco, I'm fine with CFG. I'd like them to be making more progress in getting going on the stadium; but for all we know they might be. As essentially an expansion team build without an nasl foundation, we're doing about what you can honestly expect. The team will get better, the english/european players seem to prefer the larger cities to play in, so our DP's will always be quality.
Great point Rand. yes I think we are all frustrated with the slow stadium developments but that goes to show you how difficult it is to get approval dealing with NYC politics. I think David Beckham is feeling the same down in Miami. That is why the Yankees came along, they were thought of as someone who can get political approval with infrastructure but so far that hasn't been the case. We will get it eventually and it may not be the most ideal spot but what will make it ideal is winning!

Is there any possibility that the team would fold in the next decade if we don't get a stadium or something other drastic?

There are very rare absolutes in this world, and I think the chances of this happening extremely low. If NYCFC folds within the next 10 years then MLS has way bigger problems at the macro level. If NYCFC folds then MLS days would be numbered with it and I don't think that will happen.

If the fans continue to support the team with good attendance they will be fine. It would take a massive, unforeseen, economic collapse of MLS for NYCFC to fold, or the total abandonment by the fans.

Totally true. I remember being very relieved when they'd approach 40 points and you could relax a little about them probably not getting relegated. Like you'd be happy if they were near the top of the bottom half of the table at the end of the season.

So yeah, it's pretty different now.

Haha no its not mate if you have followed city all your life you still pray to get 40points anything else is a bonus.
