How is a sweeper role not a CB? Isn’t that all just what you’re asking of the person in the position, not the position itself.
Pirlo played the #6. He didn’t defend, but he was still playing in that position. (Career-wise, I mean)
Anyways, who cares. He played CB tonight. It was a good decision. As I said, the less Sweat I see, the better.

Called three or four goals as soon as I saw the lineup. Colorado is awful right now.
- Congrats to Villa for grabbing a brace to celebrate. It was a perfect opportunity for it.
- Love the decision to sit Medina.
- Ring was a whole back line by himself.
- Ibeagha had expanded responsibility and he took great care of all of it. Loving his development in this team.
- 4 goals on 14 shots (6 on target) is huge. Again, COL is awful but you MUST capitalize in these situations and we did.
- I liked Herrera’s look in this formation. He seemed more free/comfortable.
- Berget is dangerous. Something still hasn’t fully clicked for him but he’s a constant threat. Love his ability to spin off defenders and break away. Twice he was fouled in desperation because he was free and clear.
- Tajouri-Shradi makes us better.
We got the result we should have against a team in poor form with an interesting new look for us. I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

If you’re going to insult Herrera at least get your cultural references right. Herrera is from Venezuela, not Guatemala and pupusas are from El Salvador.
As long as his teammates are disciplined enough that someone hangs back when he darts forward, Callens should go for it. So far they have been, and having Ring play a 3rd CB makes that easier.
We had no problem, and from the look of the stadium - how you could draw a line all the way around and know where the overhang was - very few other people did.
Actually, there was one problem. The woman who sat halfway down the wet seats with a gigantic pink umbrella and kept standing up, basically covering 1/4 of the pitch for everyone in the section.
It's kind of amazing that, for all the shit we get for playing on a small field and how it ruins the game and turns it into a mess, we still find 30-40 yards of space at a time out there. Still have a pretty firm belief that at 100% we're the best team in the league.
The field argument is so overdone. I think a lot of it really does come from the shitty, shallow angle they use to film the game. Makes it seem a lot narrower than it really is.
Plus, if one more fan from Seattle or Portland or Atlanta criticize our field vs. the shitty plastic crap they play on, my head will explode.
Amen. For all the shit that people talk about the field at Yankee Stadium, NYCFC is 5-0 and has outscored its opponents 15-2 this year. Looks like one team actually enjoys playing there.
I remember Atlanta fans recording a video spending a good two minutes whining about the field at YS, their turf is complete shit.
One other statistical item about how downright awful Colorado is: the Audi index yesterday was 4615 (NYC) - 560 (COL). I don’t think I have ever seen a score below 1000 - heck David Villa scored over 1000 points yesterday by himself.

The size of the field is all about optics - I sit farther back than the elevated camera but the field appears wider from my seats than on TV. I never records the home matches, but did yesterday and am watching it now, and the camera angle is horrific. There’s no depth to the field (top/bottom of the screen because the camera is too low. For better production value, they should move the camera to the third tier and (if structurally possible for soccer/baseball conversion) place the camera on a movie boom so that it’s higher but just as close, thus allowing for a more downward shot of the field. There’s no reason why 10m of near sidelines is in the field of view with every shot - it’s all due to the poor positioning of the camera.
As if I didn't love Alex Ring enough already.
