Ok this pisses me off a little. Since it’s another CFG team, we were not out bid. I’m worried there was a meeting in Manchester and someone said we have 1 year left in David Villa, maybe 2 by a miracle. We can keep him in NYC, but he’s already got as many season ticket holders to sign up as possible. Let’s move him to Yokohama and grow the brand there. I’m really getting sick of being in the CFG “family”. I may have to call CPS on them.

Entirely probable the move is to capitalize on Villa in Japan - an untapped market for him. Also likely that Villa wanted more than NYCFC could allocate from the Cap whereas Yokohama could pay whatever he wanted.

So you’re assuming NYC didn’t want to use a DP spot on him and only offered him a TAM contract. I’m cool with that. But then who’s our new DP. Because i could go right back to pissed off if we’re getting another Medina.

The organization you’re pissed at hasn’t once handled player acquisition in a PR friendly and correct way.

Im not ready to assume this is 100% CFG. Villa is very focused on building his DV7 soccer academy brand across the globe. It's possible that the team offered him a TAM contract and when that wasn't enough money this was a compromise everyone was happy with.

lol dude, i dont think outside of villa anyone been happy with DP signings when they happened. something always happened that pissed people off.

This is a great point. Also, you know who was a Medina type DP signing in terms of how much everyone hated him?

Maxi.

Everyone hated on him this time last year. Said we needed a young South American DP next time. Here we are a year later and (almost) everyone loves Maxi but is crapping on our young South American DP.

If Medina has the Sophomore bump that we got out of Maxi and I'd argue a better similar example, Jack, we'll all be thrilled with Medina.

I loved maxi year one... thought he was one of our best players but didnt have enough help around him. Got into countless arguments that i thought he was arguably our best player behind Villa. I dont see any of that at all with Medina. He may turn into something good but hes definitely nowhere near DP quality for me, at least not yet. As far as the sophomore bump, its not that i think Maxi automatically got better its that the people around him got better.

Has anybody heard from the club about the event Monday night? RSVPs closed at noon I think and they said winners would be notified today as well. I'm thinking that if you haven't heard yet you're not invited, but that's just a guess from someone who hasn't heard yet.
