The cross ownership trend seems to be continuing. The deal is not done but media in both countries are reporting it is very likely to conclude. Swansea is an attractive candidate for purchase because of (1) zero debt and its (2) solid mid table record built upon very low spending with room to improve and grow (ie become more profitable than currently if further investment makes it more successful). The Swansea ownership rejected a bid from another US group about a year ago. One difference is that this deal would be an outright takeover (excepting the 21% owned by a public fans Trust), whereas the prior deal was for a limited initial buy-in with a potential takeover. The Trust has released a non-committal statement saying it needs more time to weigh the offer and consult its members.

The Trust has also made comments saying something along the lines of, "We have been kept at arms length during these discussions and knew very little about the actual negotiations."

The new owners will also plan to keep many of the same members of the board and Chairman Huw Jenkins according to everything that I have read.

Same here. I like the Trust and give them my 10 quid yearly, but I think they will never support a sale to outsiders, and I doubt there is a local group willing and able to pay what the club is now worth. The current non-Trust owners who stepped up almost 15 years ago seem to be ready to move on and I think they should be allowed to do so. This buyers group may or may not be good for the team, but I'm not sure anyone better is going to step up.

This is a great time for investors to buy into the EPL, what with all that sweet TV money getting dumped into the league starting next season.

If I were a sports investor, I, too, would be looking at lower-tier teams in the EPL to buy a piece of.

Or a soon-to-be promoted Championship side.

The problem is, that's how you end up with poisonous characters like Vincent Tan, Carson Yeung, Assem Allam and even the Glazer family. Obviously it's never going to be how it plays out, but it would be so much better if the only people who bought into the PL were those intending on spending money, not making it.
