Expansion Rumors Megathread

The crappy part about sharing with NFL teams is that the playing surface is turf. The only time they would place grass in these stadiums is if they are selected as stadiums for a World Cup.

Here's a comparison of non-MLS Spring 2015 attendances with pre-MLS attendances of selected teams

Sacramento Republic 11,233
Indy Eleven 10,400
Jacksonville Armada 9,758
Minnesota United FC 9,192
**Portland Timbers 8,567 (2008), 20,806 (2014) x 2.42
New York Cosmos 6,719
San Antonio Scorpions 6,477
Fort Lauderdale Strikers 6,351
Louisville City FC 6,251
Rochester Rhinos 5,890.
Tampa Bay Rowdies 5,700

Oh let's start posting all the failed soccer teams per city. I guarantee that would be a HUGE list.

I think Miami is a great new MLS city.

So it will be:

ATL + LA2 in 2017
Miami + Minnesota 2018
Indianapolis/Charlotte/Tampa + Sacramento/San Antonio/Las Vegas 2019?

ATL 2017 - Confirmed (East)
LAFC 2018 - Confirmed (West)
Minnesota 2018 - Plausible (West)
Miami 2018 - Plausible (East)

Hopefully another Western Conference team can enter the league so that the conferences are balanced.

Somehow they will try and fit a stadium in the empty area next to the baseball stadium.

I think they'll knock down those houses in the middle plot and combine all three for the stadium. Miami Vice FC, please. Light Blue and Pink colors. I'd go full kit wanker in a minute.

Definitely. Something Crockett and Tubbs inspired for the home kits:

And Lt. Castillo for the Away kits:

In both cases, the hair is part of the uniform.

Miami is gonna waste more taxpayer dollars to build a stadium that will be empty most of the time?

I dig the design of the stadium. And maybe, just maybe, fans will actually fill the seats.

1) soccer stadium all privately financed. So no, tax payers will be not fleeced.
2) the stadium will be built to west of Marlins Park. Not sure how but Beckhams people say it can be done.

3) MLS has 20 teams now. If LAFC, ATL, Minnesota & Miami make it, they'll have 24. Why do we need another western team?

1. Garber really needs to give a number on how many teams will be in the league. Right now we're set for 24. If another west team comes along, there will need to be another east team: 26. Then again would make it 28. He's said that 30 is too many and I agree with that. I think that having 3 game series against conference foes is good for the league and too many teams would mess that up as every team needs to play every team at least once.

2. It would be dope if they could configure that dome to operate for both stadiums. Since Marlins and Posh & Becks FC won't be playing at the same time, the dome could move across stadium to stadium.

Why does the league need to be cap? If England, smaller than Texas, has 20, than the U.S. could handle a top league with 50+ teams.

I have no problem with 48 teams (let everyone have one!) Just as long as there's two leagues with promotion/relegation.

Thats a tight fit. Looks like the stands even go over that road. Id assume the stadium would be like what san jose did, with a steep rake for the stands.
