That's only fair, because we often have better TV access to foreign league games than their home countries do.Almost every league easier to watch than MLS now for Americans.
yeah, NBCsports give you every EPL match on so many platforms. My buddy in england gets financially raped just to watch one team. That's only fair, because we often have better TV access to foreign league games than their home countries do.
Big problem with that is then you can't sell your TV rights for anything. Now, if you want to say that it's free to cable subscribers for the channels, that's fair.I said on another post that MLS Live should be free in some capacity. They are missing the mark on the future of sports.
And I really don't think you would gain a whole ton of additional viewers by providing it for free. With it being a separate app/service, I honestly don't think a ton of additional people are going to go watch MLS games outside of their markets on top of those that would have paid for MLS Live.Big problem with that is then you can't sell your TV rights for anything. But doing it any other way is really tough. If you let non-national games stream for free, you'd still need a blackout area so that the club could make its home tv deal revenue.
What I would maybe consider is offering it for free internationally. That would be a good step. And I really don't think you would gain a whole ton of additional viewers by providing it for free. I don't think we are in a place where mls teams actually make money off of local tv. There are only a handful of teams that actually blackout games (us included).Big problem with that is then you can't sell your TV rights for anything. Do they have ads on MLB.tv?I don't think we are in a place where mls teams actually make money off of local tv. There are only a handful of teams that actually blackout games (us included).
ESPN owns MLS digital rights so unless they decide to put all the games up on ESPN3, the status quo of MLS Live is going to continue. However, my sources (aka some guy on reddit) tell me that the whole MLS Live platform is going to be redesigned this year by the same company that does MLB.tv, which is pretty featured filled.

And what's the problem with putting trackers on the players? NYCFC already makes all of their players wear them all the time. It may be hard to do that to the ball though.I haven't had it in a few years. But I don't remember any.
I liked the stat screens for each game showing men on base and a virtual pitch and ball movement from the hit. I'd follow digitally if I was at work or something. I'd love to see them translate that that to MLS. It would look like football manager in real life. Sadly, it's probably impossible to actually implement without putting a tracker on each player and the ball.
Could potentially use something like the sensor in the middle of the ball, shown below with goal-line technology. Not sure if that sensor was ever really used, but the idea could be something to get a tracker-based system in place. And what's the problem with putting trackers on the players? I could see a few games a week to catch more eyeballs, but I just don't think they would accomplish that through the MLS Live platform. Nobody knows about it. Noone is going to browse through their Apple TV selections on a Wednesday night and just choose MLS Live.Maybe not all the games, but a few weekly
showcase games. Maybe Wed and Friday night games of the week during NFL season and Friday & Sunday when it's not. I really don't know. They have to make some games free streaming though. I like how the NFL & Twitter have Thursday night games now. Unless we have more national games, we need more exposure. I can watch more non-MLS games now. I just don't know how you can introduce people to MLS when its hard to even tell them how/when to watch. We're already fans...but the question is, how do you capture new fans? Or are we the NHL 2.0?
