General MLS Discussion

MLS issued a statement when it was first approved by FIFA basically citing cost along the lines of what Shwafta Shwafta shared as the reason we don't have it. Do any leagues outside of Europe use it?

Also, we'd still probably find some reason to grumble with the technology/MLS/PRO or whatever, as it hasn't been without it's failures, e.g., this example from the Premier League in June when a GK carried the ball over the line but it wasn't picked up

I see. Could it not be a longer-goal type of thing?

We have learned it is not perfect, but the accuracy/failure rate is better than VAR by orders of magnitude, and much faster. But for the cost there is no reason not to use it. The accuracy is so good that I think any league that uses it should make GLT calls non-reviewable by VAR, as the time wasted checking multiple incidents annually would easily outweigh the benefit of fixing one wrong call every 5-10 years.

I agree, it's been pretty good in the BuLi too. It is quick in letting the ref know if the ball did indeed cross the line or not. In games I've seen the ref usually knows within 5-10 seconds if the ball did cross or not. Play will continue in those few seconds, which leads to two results:
1. Goal is ruled, players celebrate. Due to it only being ~10 seconds, maybe one or two passes have been played, but nothing major happened in that time.
2. Ball did not cross, play continues as it should.

No stoppage of 1-2 minutes occurs, and the flow of the game is unaltered.

Goal line technology is amazing, you maniacs, how is this even a debate!

VAR on the other hand...
 
I love when a close goal line incident occurs and the ref simply points to his earpiece and says goal or no goal and thats that. Game goes on. Nobody surrounds the ref screaming about the call for 3 minutes. He checked it, the call is right, lets play.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t saying I am against goal line technology, I was more making a joke about the complaints lodged on the forum about refereeing. But unless/until the cost comes down, I don’t see MLS adopting it. No one answered my question about whether any leagues outside of Europe have it but I would expect someone else to be able to afford it before MLS, no?

edit: I stopped being lazy and looked into it for a minute, and it looks like the only company supplying it (Hawkeye) has provided it to the Premier League, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, and Serie A. If La Liga isn't using it, is it realistic to think MLS is next?

My complaints about refereeing in this league are valid. It has caused us numerous instances of less points in matches.

Where your complaints fall on deaf ears for me is it's not that the referees are biased against NYCFC, they're just universally not very good. There are a very select few refs in this league where I know we'll get a good call. It just doesn't happen.

Every year some MLS team celebrates winning the Supporters Shield with clear sincerity and joy, and MLS posts the video. A few weeks ago Greg Vanney thought it important enough to speak out rather emotionally when it looked like it would not be awarded this year.
And perennially a substantial portion of MLS fans who are certain they know better dismiss the award for petty reasons.

It's an interesting rebrand and one I actually like. The logo could be a bit better, but it's nice enough.

He played there for a long time. And also it's way better of a place in terms of location. Better weather, too.

i figure he did all he could with toronto, both have to rebuild. I think Galaxy are ambitious they just lately suck on their signings and other hires. i do think he is getting paid more with the galaxy.
