General MLS Discussion

i'm ok with it. it's a new crest and probably has all those hidden meanings in it that we can't figure out without a bullet list, but that's ok. at least they didn't go and change their name to Sporting New England F.C....
I thought their old crest kinda sucked. Out of all the original teams, they seemed like the one who needed a crest rebrand IMO.

This one looks nice, it's better than the old one. It's nothing I love or anything, but I think it's an improvement.

The crayon badge is of course terrible so this is an improvement but it's far from perfect/ideal IMO as someone who has had an interest in the Revs in the past. There are a lot of fan designs for a rebrand that are better than this IMO. Many that include the New England pine tree flag or crossed muskets or just something that actually says New England as opposed to just a letter R for Revolution.

am i the only one who is finding a bit of joy in reading about altidore having drama with Armas and TFC? something about reading about his troubles that makes me smile.
Haven’t read about it but anytime Altidore is aggravated there’s reason to smile.
I guess the same with Armas.

Some interesting points

  • It will start off with MLS reserve teams ( not all MLS teams will have a team) but independent teams expected to join later on. It is expected that independent teams that are part of the MLS NEXT can potentially join later on.
  • It will apply for a third division license, but the league it self wont have any age restrictions, the idea is to use it for development of academy graduates not yet ready for first team.
  • It is expected this league can be part of the broadcast deal coming up for the league, so the venues will have to be able to handle a high quality broadcast.
  • Official announcement from MLS can be as early as the summer.

a rumor going around is that the Rochester Rhinos might come back and play in this reserve league starting in 2023. In 2022 they may play in USL 2. So then the lower league "soccer wars" is a real thing now?

also Jamie Vardy is part owner of the Rhinos now.

Let's let it play out, but it's certainly suspect that someone like Vardy would choose to invest his time and image into an effectively defunct club. Smells like a coordinated effort by MLS to land a notable brand early to prop up their D3 league and recruit more independent professional teams.

people going wild on twitter saying they going to poach USL one teams that have yet to field a team ( fort wayne, North Colorado, Central Valley). Unless MLS is going to cover some travel costs, salary, i dont see the appeal for independent teams in USL to jump ship.

I think that's the question though -- what is MLS D3 offering? If they offer travel subsidies and don't charge an expansion fee, that's millions of dollars saved right there. And as fans I think we also overvalue the importance of not playing reserve squads -- does Sacramento actually lose that much attendance and revenue when they host LA Galaxy II instead of Colorado Springs?

people just dont like when the Glaxy II or RB II host games, its all empty and makes it feel unimportant. Since this league will have alot of reserve squads that is why there is hate since these reserve matchups will happen alot.

Although i know damn well some people will make a trip for a NYCFC 2 vs RB II...or even an LAG II vs LAFC II.

If your looking for a very entertaining neutral game that has very little to no significance to our place in the table, the RSL v Vancouver game was very good with a lot of extra time drama. Was hoping to see Bobby Wood play but alas he’s not acclimated to the altitude yet lol

nashville v tfc game was wild! glad nashville came back to win. haha screw you armas!

Definitely better, but... why not just keep the original?
I say this as a person whose first MLS game was seeing the Fire at Bridgestone while visiting family—last game of the regular season, a win would have put them into the playoffs (they lost to DC), but my first taste of seeing a supporters section in person—so I’ve always had a soft spot for them, but one gripe that even many of the faithful in Section 8 had with the original is that if you wear it on hats, gear, etc, people who don’t know the club ask if you’re a firefighter

The results of the Revs, RB/Atlanta, Columbus games really went in our favor today as well
