General MLS Discussion

iraola will be available .. he's leaving bournemouth after this season.

there are also a handful of MLS experience coaches without a job: curtin, saverese, vermes, porter, etc.

i think he get snatched up by someone else in europe.

i dont think miami goes the MLS veteran route.

There is absolutely no way iraola is gonna end up in MLS any time soon, he's staying in Europe and he's gonna coach a bigger team eventually, I'm like 99% sure

Watched the highlights for the CCC games last night. Find it interesting because it's MLS v LIGAMX in every game this round.

Discrimination warnings and actual stoppage (in the LAFC game) in both games. What is wrong with people? I just don't understand why fandom has to be this way. I also do not approve when it leaks into our fan base, which it has in the past. I'm glad it has mostly gotten under control.

tbf - going from that to any MLS club would be disappointing. that section he's celebrating with is like an entire stadium in most of MLS. but smaller stadiums with a good crowd can generate a great atmosphere too. orlando's crowd isn't what it used to be with kaka and nani. with griezmann, it might come back and be decent.

there may be some MLS reasons why he ended up there, but absent that Orlando seems like a surprising choice. Though Orlando may be a fun place for his four kids!

I don't buy the discovery rights thing, MLS has been pretty consistent in resolving that issue by forcing the rights holder to just take some GAM from the team the player wants to sign with.

He's said he wanted to come to MLS for years, I think he didn't have many options. Assuming he wanted either nice weather or a major US city, that narrows the options pretty significantly. Neither of the NY teams seem interested in signing that type of player, gotta keep those DP spots open for german second division benchwarmers.

LAFC and Miami are not looking for another DP. LAG looks to be in an off year and they may be waiting to spend until Puig comes back. Orlando isn't that far of a leap if you take all those other teams out of play. Warm weather, no state income tax, and a track record of being one of the few other teams in the league that sign aging stars like Greizeman.

Agree on all that. I think my point got lost along the way that he is going from the ecstasy celebrating the Champions League semis with his supporters to a very poor MLS side playing bad soccer likely in meaningless games.

much like when messi joined a crappy miami side, maybe orlando told griezmann that they will be going out and signing more top talent in 2027 to build a team that can compete for the cup again. orlando could look very different next year, sprint season aside. or he just wanted a nice weather locale from which to enjoy the other american sports he loves so much. haha

I was trying to explain Discovery Rights to a co-worker who follows Premiere League to explain why Greizeman is signing with Orlando. How it was a blind list process and no one, neither Teams or fans, knows who owns whose rights, but if Team A and Team B want both have the player on the list it goes by PTs and then the rights can be traded for league money. We both agree it would be great sports talk fodder to know which team had which players rights. Teams would not want that because I am assuming there are some local teams whose discovery rights might not seem ambitious enough for the fan base.

It will be interesting to see once Garber leaves as Commissioner what rules will be retired.

Just gonna mention that Moussa Sylla, after several games on the bench for Schalke in the 2. Bundesliga, has started the last 3 games and scored 2 goals 🫠
i dont know her mariah carey GIF

So Sylla now has 6 goals total for the season in lower quality league than MLS. Jovan who couldn't even earn his way onto the field in MLS or Belgium has a goal and assist in his last 3 matches in the german second division as well. It was still a terribly unambitious signing, Nico was at least widely considered one of the best players in La liga 2. Sylla is an occasional starter in the german second division.
