If there is anything positive about our early season record it is a lack of draws. Better to alternate wins and losses than draw a lot.

I know. I actually did the math (not a surprise). And we'd have a minimum of 52 points if we continued to alternate wins with one tie in the bank. We could reasonably expect to exceed last year's point total with a normal number of draws. Yet it would still probably seem oddly unsatisfying.

Its the style of our play. We score genuinely amazing goals, via individual effort or transcendent teamwork, way more often than the normal MLS team. Thus it tends to look like we're bossing games when we win, and even when we loose we've outplayed the other team in the technical department.

I think from player 4-11 we still have some of the best players in the league when it comes to technique, its just our play from the back style invites painful mistakes.

I think we're going to concede several goals, no matter what lineup we put out there. But if we can go with the same lineup as v CLB, swapping Okoli for Villa, we can probably pull off PV's strategy of "just score more than you concede".

Or, maybe we can run out the mythical "two up top" formation as a 1-1 tip of the spear featuring Okoli AND Villa...

We'd give up far fewer goals if PV gave the defense the option to kick long when it looks like the press is closing in - that's when we make so many mistakes with lazy passes or mishit balls (last night with Callens). Johnson appeared to have the green light to kick long, and I applaud him for taking the approach of "first rule: do no harm" rather than trying to thread an dicey pass.

Even though we didn't look great in the formation, I really think the 3-4-3 is the better look for us right now, especially at home. Pirlo isn't going to be a permanent bench fixture, but we saw how valuable it is to have two physical guys out there in Herrera and Ring. And we are getting so little out of our fullbacks going forward, we might as well not have them out there.

F: Wallace, Villa, Harrison
M: Maxi, Pirlo, Herrera, Ring
D: Callens, Chanot, White

I have a bad feeling we'll see Pirlo because A. We're home on a small field, and B. We're going to learn Hererra has concussion-like symptoms.

I hope Hererra is ok, and Pirlo has no business being on the field against a fast & young counter-attacking team. If he's out there, our midfield is going to be overrun.

well find out soon enough....but i feel the columbus player got worse of it...bleeding and everything after the contact

Y'all...Atlanta is going in raw vs. White and Sweat.

Good thing our central defense is great at keeping big men from getting their head to crosses.

Oh wait. We're terrible at that, too. Kenwyne Jones is a fantasy must play this week. We haven't cleared a cross in 3 years.

That columbus player should have been given a red for reckless/dangerous play with no intent to play the ball. Could have then been checked out at the hospital.

yes in replay it looks like he went for it just to go for it no way near where the ball would be.....if anything just go in front of herrera...ball would of hit your face straight but you wont be bleeding.

this is something i notice recently....lots of players go for "headers" but are no where near the ball or where it would be and end up hurting themselves or the opponent player. its almost like they werent taught when to properly do a header...its not just go and jump head on for the hell of it.

Yep. But what most frustrating is that it's a cardable foul and the ref was too ignorant to recognize it simply because we scored and their guy got hurt. A foul is a foul is a foul.

Sorry, everyone, for the off-topic rant on Atlanta's thread. Just still pissed no ref wants to call a fair game with us.

speaking of atlanta ...down 3-1 to DC United....not watching game...anyone know whats going on? is atlanta missing someone?

I can't tell you that but I do know this:

Come from behind road wins give me ideas.
Oh man, you're definitely a lawyer and not a graphic designer... center the text in those cells so the category of each column isn't left justified while the data is right justified. (Or make everything right-justified)

Could you also add columns for play-by-play announcers/color guys?

Hey! I spent 45 full seconds on those borders!
