Been looking at some recent Colorado games and—how do I do a spoiler tag?—they're just not a very good team. Their 3-5-2 has no idea what to do with possession, to the point that Sporting KC's off ball approach the first time they played was to hang around in a low block and send Khiry up to hassle the three center backs by himself. But Opara and Besler were too far back and left some pockets of space on the flanks that game, so when they met again in Kansas City, Sporting pushed up to a medium block to put just enough pressure on Castillo and Colvey to keep the wingbacks facing the wrong way. The Rapids created absolutely nothing from open play and finished with 0.53 xG.

I'm not sure NYCFC has that kind of defensive patience. Choosing not to press is pretty foreign to us (although that didn't stop RBNY from holding back and inviting Colorado into their half, kind of an unnecessary tactic against a defense that's sloppy whether or not you catch it in transition). Making our fullbacks and center backs move up and down as a line, dropping our wingers into midfield defensive duties, and generally trusting in the numerical advantage that Colorado's three-man back line gives us aren't really what we're about, but SKC showed that they're effective against this team.

I don't know, I'm not sweating it. Maybe we'll line up in our own goofy 3-4-3 or whatever we're calling that thing and throw roundhouses like that wild second half against LAFC. In the end tactics shouldn't matter that much, right? It's the Rapids.

Jack Price has been one of their most effective players on both offense and defense this year and is suspended. Badji has beaten us with his speed before but he isn't a good finisher and isn't projected to start after missing last game with a hammy. I really like Castillo but he is going to have his hands full with Medina and Tinny and should be pinned back in his half for most of the game. Our pressure is going to force errors. The Rapids can't play through the midfield against teams that give them time and space (most of the Western Conference) and we don't do that. This really should be an RSL type game for us.

Right but if they can't play through the midfield anyway why bother pressing? Make sure Badji's only getting longballs over the top of two organized lines instead of the less predictable outcomes of a broken press. That was SKC's highly effective game two strategy:

Pressing seems to be the fashionable tactic -- create turnovers higher up the pitch to create more better scoring chances. Even when we don't do it as a team Villa always presses.

I wonder how much all the Vieira to Europe rumours effect the performance. Will he and the players be focused enough?

Given that he doesn’t modify his gameplan for our opponents and makes changes to the lineup at a glacial pace (see Ben Sweat) I don’t buy the idea that rumors about his job have any effect on our performance. Portland and RedBull just beat us, and was he not distracted during the week leading up to Dallas?

Bench: Stuver, Abdul-Salaam, Shradi, Ofori, Ibeagha, McNamara, Hountondji

Matarrita and Wallace don't make the 18 to keep them healthy for the World Cup. Doubling up on CBs in case Chanot needs to be subbed early because of injury or something else and to have another backup. McNamara in there because Vieira isn't going to put Lewis in there.

I think that this is what PV will do. As much as I’d like to see Isi start, I think PV sees him more off the bench.

I’d love to see Mata get a start at LB but I wouldn’t do it because I think his head’s already in the WC and he’s going to just play to avoid injury - meaning craptastic. If I remember correctly in the same situation in the past Mata played right before a key CR callup (I think it was against RBNJ) and he crapped the bed, as he was just trying to not get hurt for CR. He’d do the same tomorrow, and given that he is a man of glass...

I’d also ponder putting in SAS for Sweat, but also don’t see that happening.

I had accidentally deleted the email referencing the pin. I recall it mentioning a table on the main concourse. Is that correct?

Table in the Great Hall before end of HT.

So do we get as many pins as we have tickets?

If so, aren’t we defeating the value of it?

Give me a numbered one out of 400. Instead, in typical CFG fashion, they will print 40000 and every “founding member” will end up with 2-6, along with the shills/club employees.

I am glad I don’t think the club owes me anything. I don’t get much out of it other than having fun on the forum and meeting up with you guys sometimes.

I know with those patches at Citi field they gave me one per ticket. And I had to show them my id. I’m assuming it’s the same here, you get a pin per seat.

Edit: also, what do you care how many get made? This some type of new crypto I’m not aware of?

Well, it’s not very special if there are thousands of them. If there are 400 numbered units, it feels like a far bigger deal.

So make more, but only give out 400 numbered ones. Problem solved.

Would be nice to have a few English players on the roster today since this nonstop chilly, pouring rain would remind them of home.....
