Here is what I posted on the Formation thread, which would apply on Saturday, assuming Lampard is a go.

I'm assuming that Poku, Calle start. Would Kreis play Mix deep like AJ does?

What I hope to see:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Villa - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - - Calle - - - - Poku/Lampard - - - - Mix - -

- - - - - - - Jacobson - - - - - - - Pirlo - - - - - - - -

- Angelino - - Facey - - Hernandez - - - Iraola -

- - - - - - - - - - - - - Saunders - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What I am afraid we will see:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Villa - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - - Calle - - - - - --Grabavoy--- - --- - Mix - -- - -

- - - - - - - Jacobson - - - - - - - Pirlo - - - - - - - -

- Angelino - - Facey - - Hernandez - - - Iraola -

- - - - - - - - - - - - - Saunders - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

If Lampard starts in this scenario it probably gets even worse with Grabavoy taking the Calle spot with Lampard in the middle up top. I can't think of a time Grabavoy was available and Kries didn't select him. Maybe this is the weekend that changes with Pirlo providing some much leadership in the midfeild that Kries doesn't feel the need to force Gabavoy in there.

Grabavoy got a straight red though so I think he has a three match ban, making him banned for another two games.

I don't think so. A straight red still only means a 1 game suspension. Now Grabs might be on the outside of the starting 11 with so many players healthy and new DP midfield additions.

So in all these scenarios, Villa is up top alone?

In theory Villa doesn't seem to be the type of player you leave alone up top but it's been working. With all the talent we need to fit in the midfield we might as well stick with it. The only worry is Villa getting hurt. How much more tape can the guy fit on his arms and wrists.

He seemed to work fine up there alone once the midfield improved. He's definitely not a target striker that you want to be lobbing long balls to, but when the ball is being moved through the midfield, he looked good up there alone.

Think we will see something like this on Saturday with Lampards eventually coming off of the bench for 30 minutes or so. Hernandez will come back into the lineup after sitting out last week due to yellow card accumulation. I think Poku played very well under Villa and I'd like to see what he can do in a full game with Pirlo behind him. He'd work as a ST/CAM like he did last game. I want to see Calle above Angelino again because I liked that partnership and I want to see what they can do together. And Mix will come back in to a position that he plays sometimes with the NT

Not worried about drogba at all. Our defense can't cope with speed. Drogba is a target guy. Don't think we'll have too much trouble containing him.

He could be an issue on corners since our back line is a bit short. Still I agree we typically handle guys like Drogba a lot better than players like Oduro.

Can I like this more than once? I can't wait till the day when we pretty much know what our lineup will be and changes are surprises rather than the norm.

Mix playing above Iraola would be great. Would give him someone he can partner with and actually get the ball over to that side of the field.

So people are just going to throw Tommy McNamara to the curb ? He has done great things for us so far.

No. But he's not going to play in front of Pirlo, Lampard or Diskerud. Once those guys are slotted in, you need to find a position for him. I think he is a poor wide player. His best position is underneath the striker. Unfortunately, I think that is also the best position for Diskerud, Lampard and Poku.

That leads you to playing Calle wide left with Jacobsen supporting Pirlo.

I do like the suggestione someone had of Mix playing as an 8 next to Pirlo. What a beautiful partnership that could be.

For that to work, Lampard then has to play RM, otherwise we end up with Grabavoy.

Which would be dreadful as his playing style and remaining attributes do not come close to a winger. Poku has never started a game at striker, has come off the bench a couple of times to do it. We might need to revert to the diamond.

First of all, the way we play, everyone floats. Except for Pirlo apparently. But the other 4 midfielders float around.

And depending on who is behind Lampard, it doesn't bother me.

"Ringhio" Gattuso. Two feet like two drain covers, but seven lungs to protect "el gnäro de Fler" (the kid from Flero).
