The ESPN broadcast window is from 12-2:30, and coverage for the France-Iceland quarterfinal follows. So, a kickoff between 12:20 - 12:30 fits that schedule pretty well.

The fact that we lead into the Euro quarterfinal explains the scheduling decision pretty clearly I think.

Looks like I'll be continuing my gameday tradition of an English breakfast in Queens before the match. The thing I hate about supporters section tickets (aside from the lack of seats and no roof) is that I have to get there as the gates open pretty much if I want to be in the front so I'm joining Team 50 for this match and getting up around 8.

I'd rather be in the front so I can watch the game without distractions from people. Just me, the pitch, and my verbal abuse of the opposition goalkeeper.
That's a lot of food to have in your system before two hours under the hot sun.... May want to add some TUMS to the menu.

That's actually a decent observation. I felt pretty poor the last match, Tums included. Though the heartburn may have been caused by NYCFC's inability to close out a game easily.

Maybe I'll just booze it up and have an egg McMuffin.

Honestly I'm more concerned about our fans.

The first derby last year the stadium atmosphere was immense. Completely filled.

This year we have seen a big attendance drop and this game coming up looks like it will be even less attended with the holiday weekend and all.

The jersey boys can get away with it since they historically dont draw well. But if we are going to get a stadium built in the city we need a strong showing at the box office and its not looking good.

Then perhaps someone should inform the geniuses at CFG their Major League Soccer team is not yet on equal footing with the Yankees, Mets, Rangers and Knicks, so price gouging ticket prices at this point in time is rather counter productive to the cause. ;)

And as a P.S., don't be surprised the Galaxy match in August turns out to be another attendance disappointment.

Just the opposite. Although attendance has dropped a bit form last year (which is expected) NYCFC is currently in 3rd for total attendance for 2016 in the MLS. Attendance is strong overall and will get stronger with our own stadium.

This game seems much quieter than the first "Heineken Rivalry Week!!!" game, which I think is better for NYCFC. It was clear that RBNY was a jacked up buzz saw while NYCFC was pretty much right off the plane to the game with all the added bullshit media on Thursday.

Meanwhile this time seems as if RBNY comes in after being booted out of the Open Cup while NYCFC has been quietly training and preparing.

I'd sign up right now for a dull 2-1 win instead of a jacked up "we need to blow them out!!!" team that is trying to do too much.

agreed...may cooler heads prevail

over the long term...not too worried if we win or lose this game. it is inevitable the team with more money will do well in the long run. we will eventually dominate them for years to come. unless they find a sugar daddy too.

A reminder to the New York City FC supporters, to all the families and crews in the bleachers. Things *can* go wrong again this Sunday. NYCFC are apparently playing the exact same way as they did during the 0-7 according to Vieira, with an older midfield now, so it *could* get bad (It could also work very well since Lampard and Iraola should be much more calm, skilled, and intelligent on the ball, which can help NYCFC keep possession, but we'll see).

I think, if things get bad again, you should all be mentally prepared to sing, support and make a statement. You'll be on national television. Don't let New Jersey fans drown you out and shut you up. Don't let them ruin your fucking party. Make a statement. Our time will come. My expanded thoughts on this:

Sorry but this isn't true.

If you are going off announced attendance, where every team tacks on 0's, then you have a point.

But the fact is there at far less butts in seats at the stadium this season.

Nick Chavez Nick Chavez your link doesn't work. The actual text of the link does if you copy/paste, but clicking on it opens a blank page FYI.

You need to look at totality. What clubs would you say have actual people attending greater then NYCFC? I'm curious. All of them? Are we 20th?

If we give up 5, I'm all-in on rooting for a snow man.

This game scares the hell out of me for all of the reasons everyone has said. Any rationale of us winning is extremely optimistic thinking to the point of fantasy.

If I were Red Bull, I'd kick the shit out of Frank and Villa at the kick-off and high press HARD for the first 15 minutes. Do that, and you can likely take the next 75 off because we sure as hell will.

Again, too many are ignoring the mental aspect of the game. We have to master that to have a chance - and if we do, I think we are the better team, but it is a big "if".

No soccer game anywhere ends up 7-0 without one team totally shitting the bed. Were the Red Bulls better that game? Yes. But it takes a lot more than a tactical or personnel advantage to get to that kind of score. Our guys came in pretty jacked, and probably not in control of their emotions. Then they were thrown off balance by the early goal and the Red Bulls' physicality, and the one-sided officiating, and they totally lost it. It didn't help that tucked away in the backs of many players' minds was doubt about even being able to win. I could see them losing the string on the field as the first half progressed, and when I saw that New Jersey had added a third goal just before the half, I knew something like 7-0 was a distinct possibility.

Yes, certain things being raised here and elsewhere are important. The battle to play out of the back vs. high pressure is huge. Our ability to defend set pieces, and their general weakness on the back line could play a big role. Our rest and their recent run of games is something to watch.

Still, there is a threshold issue. Can our guys carry the right attitude and keep focused for 90 minutes? Are they going to play loose? or tight? When adversity arrives, will they start to doubt themselves? Can they keep cool when the Red Bulls start to foul and bait them? Do they really believe in themselves in this game? Can they use the atmosphere of the derby to fuel themselves without losing their focus? There are a lot of tightropes they are going to have to navigate in the mental game.

More than anything else, this is what I am going to be looking for in the game - especially in the first 20-25 minutes. Let's see if our guys come to play. If so, I think we are the favorites, but they have to be totally in the game first.

We all know that RBNY is coming in jacked. Dax is going to scream and they're going to come out hitting (god, this sounds like I am talking about a hockey game, but sadly it's true). Emotions will be high.

If you get a team playing on the edge, it can go bad as well as good. Instead of scoring the early goal and running over the team, imagine if NYCFC scores an early one and a bad foul is called against RBNY (or just a bad call goes the other way)...you could easily get a blowout going the other way. I actually thought this was going to happen in the prior game with the way that RBNY was talking about "most important game of the year".

One other thing, sounds like people are legitimately scared that the RBNY press is going to run us over...this is not Argentina we're playing. Know how many times RBNY has won in 9 games away from RB Arena? 1. They have a goal differential of +5, meaning that throwing out the 7-0 win against us, they have given up more goals then they have scored. RBNY has lost 8 of their 17 games.

This.

Yes the last derby was brutal. Yes, we've lost to NJ 4 times. But I think we are giving too much credit to that stat and not enough to the overall shift in run of play. We are trending up. They are trending down. Eventually, the hex gets broken. As Canchon said, this isn't Argentina. It's time to shut down this streak.

Questionable is the kindest phrasing possible for describing Ethan White's likelihood of contributing to any soccer match.
