Kreis " We Can't Use Tam Because Our Dp's Make Too Much $..."

The day we have to use TAM on a DP is the day we know CFG doesn't care anymore. We're always going to have three of the highest paid players in the league, so long as here are only 3 DP spots.

Or it's because CFG is incredibly intelligent with their money? All they have to do is sign a $525k player, whom they immediately buy down and then buy they DP they were going to buy anyway. We can't keep Mix forever, but TAM + normal allocation money lets us sign a good replacement.

The only problem I see is that NYCFC looses some of its big CFG inspired competitive advantage in years 2-5.

We can't spend the money we have and our player development system has not started bringing kids online yet. We will still get people from Man City that need some seasoning, but we won't be fully in a position to bring the full firepower of our development system to bear yet.

In terms of cap space, home grown players are a godsend, especially if we can sell one to Europe.

I get it that accountants and lawyers lobby Congress to make horse shit laws to make legal and tax codes so complicated no one can understand or navigate them without paying an accountant or a lawyer.

What the fuck is MLS's excuse?

I don't have time to go get a Ph.D. in this dumb assery just to understand which acronym we need more of, which 3 teams we need to deal with, or what new rule we need to create just so we can sign a new player.

Fuck.

Since there is no fourth DP spot (yet), think of it as DP-lite, as I have seen it referred to at times. But in order to do it - get 3 DP's and a DP-lite - the timing has to be just right, as already observed:

The rule is so ridiculously constructed to fit exactly what the galaxy needed...

Why do you say that?

Beyond the fact that he is a bench player for this manager (only partially kidding), I think he will want to move on to European soccer in his prime. He's all about experiences. This is one.

And this is one of the biggest problems with MLS. We'll never be able to pay Mix a few million that he might be able to make in Europe. It's like we're a two-tiered league. Three great players and one good player, then the other 24. Man City has what might be the equivalent of 15 of our DPs, so many that they have more than they have room for in any given match. Aguero a little tuckered out? No problem, they have three other DP-level strikers available. And DP midfielders. And DP defenders. And a DP keeper.

We are decades away from being able to afford DP quality at every position. I only hope I see it in my lifetime.

I hope that we decide to make Mix a DP and keep him in the city.

Whether we could afford it or not, which we can, we're not allowed to by rule. I get that not all the teams have the money we happen to have, but it just seems to me that only being allowed to have four players that are stars is going to limit the league's growth, not help it.

I didn't mean we (NYCFC) can't afford it. I meant we (MLS as a league in general and most teams specifically) can't afford it. Soccer in America has proven that unlimited spending is a great way to bankrupt the league. Aggravating as it is, I think it's right to take a slow approach to our spending growth.

I totally get that. But then you get a league that *might* be comparable to the Championship but is nowhere near the Premiership. And as a perfect example you're in the situation we're in: offensive powerhouse with no defense and not allowed to get another truly quality player.

It's maddening at times.

Yeah that really bothers me about MLS.

Its pathetic that the league minimum is 50k. While thats decent money for an average joe who's young and single...thats pathetic to pay a professional athlete when others in the league and even on his own team will be making hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions of dollars.

How are players supposed to feel about that? Plus the skill gap is insane like you said. You get what you pay for. I know the league is young, and I know salaries were a part of the problems our old first division had before the MLS existed...but come on.
