Maybe A 'friendly' Game Coming Up?

I'll be very surprised if they don't play each other. MLS owners love these summer friendlies with big European sides. It draws a lot of neutrals and fills stadiums.

I can't imagine ever seeing an NYCFC v MCFC friendly. I don't think CFG would want to see one of their teams be crushed by another one of their teams.

Not to mention being in the middle of a season. Unless we play our bench, fringe, and academy players.

I don't want this to be taken as a pop at City. It is a genuine question.

Is City even that big of an American draw? I'm asking because when I went to see Chelsea against City, at Yankee stadium, it was about 80% Chelsea fans (at least Chelsea shirts) and the other 20% were other teams, and even a lot more Arsenal and Barcelona shirts than City shirts. Was the same thing when Chelsea played PSG a few years ago.

No, City isn't much of a draw. Not at all scientific but I've watched Premier League games around NYC for a while now. I think Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool are the three most popular teams. Chelsea is fourth, but measurably behind the top three. I'm not even sure that Manchester City are fifth - certainly far behind the "big four" in terms of popularity. City are more on the level of Everton and Spurs, and truthfully might even be a little behind that. You simply don't see a lot of City fans around.

I would assume that's the biggest reason CFG is going out and acquiring clubs around the world - they really need to promote the MCFC brand in general. Manchester City is a big club financially right now, but they're orders of magnitude behind the true international giants (Madrid, Barcelona, United, Bayern Munich, Milan, etc) in terms of popularity. You can't buy that, it takes years.

There was nothing but red at the City-Liverpool match last year. Also, if you look at the nbcsn tv ratings, you can see that City on it's own does not draw nearly as well as the big 3.

I see it as a few things. City were just getting to be good when soccer (read: EPL) had a regular presence on TV in the United States. When the 2010, 2014 World Cup was about, City were quite good, and no one really wants to be a bandwagoner, so I think they stayed away from them. Also, the only clubs you ever heard about in the 2000s and early 2010s were United and Liverpoop. United would do summer tours in the 2000s, and they drew really well.

You're not going to see a bunch of sky blue, but City is a quality opponent that usually helps drive the sales anyway. Man City played Sporting KC last year, and Sporting park was sold out. Now it was sold out with SKC fans mostly, but the organizers don't care the color of shirts the fans are wearing as long as there's a fan in every seat.

Much prefer rags and dippers .to utd and Liverpool.

As an American Man City fan I'd say there's a number of reasons. Probably the biggest one is that when the EPL started becoming popular here they were solidly middle of the table (and actually, not always solidly for that matter). I remember a number of years where you'd be wondering for quite a bit of the season if they'd get to 40 points and be safe from relegation. If they're in the top 4 or 5 for the next 10 years the way they are now it might be different, but even though they have just as much history as the "big" clubs it's only been the past few years that they've been back to being good.

Even now most older city fans look to get 40 points.typical city is alive and kicking no matter what they do to kill it.
Every club has isteree some like to bang on about it more than others.

Some clubs have more chapters in their history books than others.....................;)

To a Stockport County fan their history is just as important as a fan of Real Madrid feels about their phistory. I seem to apologise to many clubs fans about our investment and success, I validate it by knowing that 'I was there when we were shit!'

Doubt it this year, another casualty of the Frank Lampard decision.

I hope we play no summer friendlies this season and just focus on the league.

Uhh.....Sporting Park is always sold out....

Sporting park through the first three games has had 60177 tickets sold. That's over 20,000 a game. The stadium seats just less than 19,000. So they're selling standing room only tickets, too.
