Maybe this has already been discussed, but anyone have thoughts on why kickoff is so early for a west coast game? Is it as simple as "there's no way an MLS match is anywhere near popular enough for it to be worth Disney's while to televise it any later in the day"?

This. Regular season NBA game between warriors and sixers will get more viewers than MLS cup.

Good luck fellow NYCFC loving humans. Started the drinking last night to handle the nerves. Don't plan on stopping.
When you're on ABC, the gametime is rigid. So it was always set for 3pm ET no matter where the game was played. They have a basketball game in primetime, and I think you'd agree ABC is more high-profile than ESPN.
Also ... the only other real sports competition is the Army-Navy game. It's actually not a terrible timeslot.

Is it crazy to think that this time slot also gives even the slightest chance of garnering some European eyeballs?
Have all my scarves ready and about to head to my buddies house to watch the game. Will have plenty of pizza and beer. Praying for a thrashing but I’ll take any kind of win.
