MLS - February 22 - Miami (Away)

I'm surprised it seemed as though Bakrar was going to make it in the XI to start the season. Also is Hank slotting into a CDM role? Is that how he has played in preseason? I think I'd rather see Haak in the backline over Tana and Perea in the XI, but let's see how this works!
I'm excited

Inter Messi still hasn't beaten us.

Disappointing to get ripped up like a pretzel there at the end, but any of us would have taken a point at the beginning of the match.

Wolf has got to work on his attacking passes. He was a black hole out there. We should have had a third goal, but we couldn't make a lethal pass.

Just a chaotic game in MLS. Same as it ever was.

Thought we looked fine. We're clearly undermanned and incomplete. I think this roster is better than 2023, but not by much. It needs significant help. If we fill out our DP/U-22 slots with strong pieces we'll have a good year, but those signings need to happen soon because we won't survive until the summer window like this.

Our XI is good enough to be competitive, but our depth off the bench is nowhere near good enough.

Absolutely I'd have taken that point coming into the night, but the way that game went we should have taken all 3.

I skipped the live chat and really glad I did. This was far above expectation. Feels like everything was stacked against us and we still got out with a draw against the runaway league favorite.

Martinez Shore Haak O’Toole and Parks all brought a-game. Mitja too. We played quick, never bunkered. If we play like this all season we will surprise a lot of people, not least this sub.(ETA I spend too much time on Reddit).

P.s. we have all seen that winner called back for offside in other competitions. But Messi FC so no review. It is what it is. I take nothing but positives from this one. Now if Lee/CFG can sign even one difference maker.

We all know Ojeda is great at progressing the ball on his own, beating players 1v1. It's hard to tell on tv but it also seemed like he was making really good runs, getting into space in and around the box, and not getting the final pass. Hope that's accurate and they figure out how to get him the ball in those cases.

A lot of the 2nd half we did not play quick. We played SLOW as hell. there was no intensity, which is what jansen wants. We let miami take their rest instead of making them run. Haak was responsible for the first goal all on his own and did a better job when he was on CB and didn't have to track messi.

I understand sometimes you have to slow the game down, but we were up a man against a tired miami side with 4 guys who don't like to run. We needed to run them into the ground and kill the game off. Instead, we let them rest and take their chances against us, which they happily did.

The subs just increased the chances of miami equalizing cause we couldn't keep the ball to save our lives. no smart plays. sloppy and wasteful. it was inevitable.

fernandez shouldn't play unless we're up by 4 or more goals and there's only 20 mins left. wolf kills attacks and not sure what he's giving us on that wing. same as last season. Perea looks super rusty coming back from his surgery.

Mitja looked ready to play. Shore had a solid debut. Martinez looked dangerous as usual.

We had some positives for sure and on the whole, positive game with a bad after taste. We are in desperate need of some solid signings.

And yet, we were unlucky not to get that 3rd goal. If we get it, it's a totally different story.

I realize we've been crediting lack of luck for a couple years now. I'm sick of calling us unlucky, too. But we should have had that 3rd goal at least a couple times.

This roster isn't nearly complete and we still almost defeated the runaway league favorites on Opening Night. This was a positive night with a bad result. We are in desperate need of reinforcements, and those reinforcements need to hit. Because we can't rely on Maxi Moralez to be our metronome the way we did tonight. We need a succession plan for him so we don't run him into the ground by June.
