NYCFC Announce Citi Field Series (2020)

I expect their response to all complaints will be you can use your Trade-Ins if you don't like Citi or your seat assignment. Would be nice if they raised the cap on trade-ins as some limited compensation for the switch to Citi, but I only put that at maybe 50% likelihood, and if so they give us 2 extra games. But that's all speculation.

This is an obviously good decision for almost everyone (players, most fans) but absolutely should have been announced, or at least hinted at, long ago. To wait until they have the schedule finalized is unfair to people who renewed already.

Overall though, this is great and should have been done for the last couple years! Hopefully they don't totally botch the ticketing.

I just reached out to NYCFC and asked a ticket rep about opting out of the Citi Field games. I was told there will be no refund for the four matches and you can use 4 of your 8 trade-ins for them. I asked if there was any conversation about not counting the four matches and he told me "no." From the conversation it also sounded like you will be assigned seats but will be able to upgrade or move them to a section of your liking at some point.

You guys were pu t in the M&M seats for Toronto, right? Which is very close to the field but not on it like Pitchside?

No, for Columbus 2017 they didn't have Pitchside, so I (and think most people) bought M&M. For Toronto 2019 they actually had Pitchside seats on the field with exactly the same setup as Yankee Stadium (they literally took the seats over from Yankee Stadium). But the hospitality and logistics were terrible as compared to Yankee Stadium. I'm looking for a credit more than anything else.

You have to strip out everyone's personal preferences on scheduling and commutes, which you're never going to find consensus on.

On the one hand:

- Citi Field an objectively nicer stadium in terms of facilities and food/drink (and tailgates!)
- Better schedule for the first team
- Chance to scope out whether Queens really is the best permanent spot for our fanbase
- Chance to get the players better acclimated with Citi Field ahead of any possible playoff games
- Weekend games are likely to draw bigger crowds than midweek games

On the other hand:

- Some of our notoriously accommodating and patient season ticket holders will not be happy
- Spreading fixtures across multiple stadiums is a trickier sell for the casual fan ("I thought they played at Yankee Stadium?")
- Switching stadiums will make things feel disjointed for players and fans alike, at least to some extent
- Reinforces the sense that we are making up our stadium situation as we go along

This plan wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'm interested to see how it goes - the impact it has on attendance, atmosphere and the product on the field. It's a massive moment for the club - one of the biggest in our history. We're looking at a massive shift in the way this team is marketed to the city. Or a year-long experiment that gets quickly forgotten about.

To be fair I’m guessing the resale market for these 4 games might actually be robust enough that it’d make more sense to sell them rather than trade them in

i am happy they are able to eliminate some schedule congestion and mid-week games, but for many of the reasons mentioned, i just don't like it. we need to have a home and just stay there. i don't like the atmosphere at citi field. the only good thing about it is shake shack. the noise just doesn't carry as well.

i'm gonna have to think long and hard about whether i'll be going or trading in. i'm just upset that this is even a thing i have to think about. i want to be there IN PERSON supporting my team!

I think they need to move the supporter section to the other side of the field, where there's a cohesive group

What changed about how they sat supporters in 2017 and 2019? IIRC there was a consensus that the SS in 2017 was really good and the sound carried much better from there than from the LF bleachers in NYC. In 2019 there have been complaints both that the views were obstructed and the sound did not carry. But it looked to me like they were in the same place.

No, they replicated Pitchside on the field like at YS. There were some issues though, like getting there and back. You were basically stuck there for the game, with no bathrooms etc.

Agreed with your post as a whole, but I don't think the bullet point I've quoted above really matters.

Playing all 17 games in Yankee Stadium with only 3-4 midweek games is the best, but that option has not been on the table for the last two years given how MLB has chosen to schedule the Yankee games.

So, with a choice between 17 games in Yankee Stadium with 8 midweek, or splitting 4 games to Citi Field and having only 4 midweek, I will take the second choice every time.

That was likely due to a random wednesday for many people/workers. I'm sure on a prime saturday/sunday they'll be open

Not sure, but I know that I was on the bottom section and they were not able to coordinate with the top section properly. I asked someone and he mentioned something that was different, but I don't remember what it was.

they're probably just going to take what they did for the playoff game and assign the same seats and say "contact your rep if you have issues". less work for them since their "experts" already did the hard work for STHs once.
