Or Toronto, or Columbus, or a number of other matches I've probably erased from my memory because we got all hyped and then the team shat their collective pants.

What's important is that teams react to opposites. JK was a motivator, screaming "be a dick" and what not. It didn't work on his Euro superstars, but it's a type of coach. Then they move on to laid back PV. That worked too, but players didn't respond in big matches. Maybe it's time to get another screaming maniac in the locker room to push these guys to fight come playoff time?
Why does Columbus get included on the list of games the team “didn’t get up for?” We lost 4-1 that first leg, so I’m not saying it was a good performance, but I don’t remember thinking it was because the team “didn’t show up” I remember a terrible stupid red card and then the decision to go for goals instead of parking the bus (which obviously turned out to be a bad decision)

How different are people’s feelings about PV if that red card doesn’t happen and the team wins that round?

#1 Columbus was on short rest & playing for position for weeks, we should have been able to run them down that match, even with our travel.

#2 I think if the team advances past CLB to Toronto last season, then it would depend on the outcome of that series. If NYC gets blown out like 2016 then I'd probably still feel the same way (maybe 90% as much) about his playoff coaching. If it's close, then we just came up against one of the best teams in league history and I might have a differing opinion.

However, we didn't get there, and even in your defense of the Columbus match, you still point out PVs terrible tactics to go for goals. So, lets find someone else who's better that his job then our current canard boiteux.

There's only one direct flight per day to Nice from the New York area airports. It's Delta 412 departing JFK at 8:04 PM. Time to get some flight manifests...

Just bringing this back up. Vieira can coach NYCFC on Saturday, pack up his life, and be onto Nice all in the same day.

If what is being reported is true, that PV is taking his whole staff, it’s not like a coach is leaving - there is no one left to coach, or if you hire a coach, he has no staff.

That is a legitimate middle finger, “who cares” move. You cripple the team in the middle of the season.

Even Lampard already has a job, jeez.

Do you expect Vieira to leave us his lieutenants out of the goodness of his heart?

Either way, he's not going to walk out the door with every single coach, bib and training cone under his arm. Teams change coaching staffs mid-season all the time and I hardly think we'll be "crippled" if PV leaves. Damaged, sure, but we've got some good pieces here. This is probably one of the most attractive gigs in the league.

It’s one thing for a coach to be fired because of poor performance/losing the locker room, etc. That happens often (and seems to be happening more and more in top pressure leagues like the PL).

It’s another situation for the coach to walk out on his team, even worse, walk out on his team after denying it for weeks. That is a completely different scenario and speaks to having a weasel for a head coach.

The team definitely didn’t match the intensity of Columbus in the first game. The news about the potential move to Austin came out before that game and CLB came out fired up to prove before their fans that they belonged; NYCFC didn’t match the early surge and boom, down a goal in the first 10 minutes.

Then, after the red card, the team AGAIN lost focus by getting blown out, they should have circled the wagons and secured the result. The fourth goal was an insult and was the difference in the series.

Columbus scores four goals that night. You know how many CLB scored in the next three playoff games? ZERO.

The team has not shown any resiliency, lost focus, made bad decisions in basically EVERY playoff or knockout game (except leg 2 vs CLB where the series was already lost). After a while this is not just “oh we had bad luck” but is an indication of coaching and mental preparation.

You're envisaging a situation where a manager would turn down a better job to avoid 'walking out on his team'. Or a situation where someone would openly admit "Yeah, I'm probably leaving" while negotiations are ongoing. Both situations are complete fantasy.

Let's assume you're Vieira. You're offered a better job. Then a reporter asks you about it. What do you do? Be honest.

So, assuming PV leaves after this weekend... who's our next coach? They'll probably bring in another CFG / Man City coach-in-training, right? Or of course are plenty of big names out there and will be more after the WC ends. Trade the "student" for the "master" and bring in Wenger?

On the other end of the spectrum... this is EXTREMELY unlikely b/c of how the relationship between CFG & Kreis went, but... anyone know what Caleb Porter is doing right now? Or, maybe Gregg Berhalter if he doesn't get the USMNT job, Columbus moves to Austin and Berhalter doesn't want to follow (would make sense that he'd hate the owner too at this point, right?).

For the record, I'd personally strongly prefer a coach with MLS experience, but think that's less likely w/ CFG.

Like most job offers. Deny until I have something in writing.

You know how many coaches who leave for another job lie about it for weeks?

ALL OF THEM!

And they aren’t all weasels.

The issue here is timing. A coach saying “I’m committed to X” while negotiating is a normal thing in the offseason. Duh, you would never say “I’m leaving” in ANY job until you have accepted the next one.

The issue here is this dragging out for weeks when the team is actively playing games. If the coach says “I’m committed to team X” and then leaves for team Y in the offseason, that’s expected. Its a different thing to draw your team along for weeks and then bolt out the back door when they have a game soon.

most likely deal was not signed/finalized until this week, no need to corner yourself saying you are talking with another team when nothing is set yet.

this is going to be common thing for coaches going forward in this league because of the timing of schedule between US and Europe. lie until a summer break then bounce. no team will want you half way thru a season, unless they are fighting relegation, and who wants that? when coaches start saying they are "committed" and stuff like that then most likely they are gone, i said it when he said those words few weeks ago, looks like this case is no different.

maybe because im used to coaches saying stuff like this before in other leagues/countries that is not shocking to me that this is going down how it is.

Are there many other examples of these honorable coaches you speak of who wait dutifully until the offseason before they entertain the idea of a job promotion? I can think of lots who don't.

I know this team (in its infancy) hasn't had to suffer many meaningful departures, but let's be real. This is PV trying to get the best deal for himself and his family. I'm sure he's not wild about the timing either, but this is how the game works.

You're right, I'm used to this, but I'm realizing that usually I don't give a shit :D. But then I've never really supported a hometown club.
