Bernardo Silva
Manchester City
Silva’s probably been the second-best midfielder of the past dozen years (behind Luka Modrić), most of which has been spent winning one title after another with Manchester City and a handful with Portugal.
He’s been a ball-moving, field-tilting genius out there, much more of a No. 8 than a No. 10 for both club and country. But in MLS, he’d play either as a free No. 8 in a 4-3-3 that tilts towards his side, with more playmaking responsibility than the other No. 8, or as a pure No. 10 who’d dish out one tap-in after another.
Silva is still just 31, but is out of contract this summer. Any MLS team that intends to sign him will likely have to fight off some top clubs from the "big five" leagues, as well as the likes of Fenerbahçe, Benfica and the usual crop from Saudi Arabia.
Best MLS fit: If you’re an NYCFC fan, you couldn’t ask for a better Maxi Moralez successor/replacement.
Silva would be amazing here. Hard to see that happening though but I'd be ecstatic if it did.Interesting article by Matty Doyle this afternoon over on the MLS site.

Global stars: 4 potential transfer targets for MLS teams | MLSSoccer.com
MLS front offices don’t stop scouting when the window closes; they change lenses. Over the past decade, that lens has largely focused either on younger, less-established players or mid-career veterans who could certainly play in top European leagues. The Hany Mukhtars, Diego Rossis and Evanders...www.mlssoccer.com
It would certainly be worth the standard NYCFC 1 window wait as we scream over no new signings this winter.Silva would be amazing here. Hard to see that happening though but I'd be ecstatic if it did.
With Craig Carton back on the WFAN, what are the chances we get more than one Marty Edelman interview to talk about the team and the new stadium. As Craig is his nephew I say there is one interview right after Etihad Parks tickets sale process goes through then current STH and right before they hit the waiting list. Edelman did appear on the show once after the stadium is announced.
19. NYCFC
Total: 26.5 points
This is the last year NYCFC scores just one point in the non-soccer category before moving to their new Queens home. Pascal Jansen has the team playing attractive, winning soccer, Nico Fernández Mercau is a best XI-caliber player, while Maxi Moralez is a warm blanket of familiarity, chance creation and lovable nonsense.
I think Bogert hit the bong when putting this together.

For those without a subscription:
Now personally I really don't have too much of a problem with the ranking, because this team is totally different without Martinez.
But putting NJ, Minnesota, Chicago, Houston and Colorado ahead of us? GTFOH.

Agree. The Post has done a nice job covering us over the years. Some peaks and valleys to be sure, but this reporter is doing a nice job and providing more content than we've ever had before.
Agree.
I don't know what the situation is or was over at the Post, but I like the fact that they have returned to a beat writer with a by line and not a wire service as it was for awhile..
But then again who knows nowadays? Hell, Christian Arnold could be an AI bot for all we know.![]()
