It would certainly be worth the standard NYCFC 1 window wait as we scream over no new signings this winter.
With Craig Carton back on the WFAN, what are the chances we get more than one Marty Edelman interview to talk about the team and the new stadium. As Craig is his nephew I say there is one interview right after Etihad Parks tickets sale process goes through then current STH and right before they hit the waiting list. Edelman did appear on the show once after the stadium is announced.

I think Minnesota makes sense, the James situation is going to be fascinating to watch. Chicago scored the 2nd most and gave up the 5th most goals in the league last year. If I was a natural fan I'd much rather watch Chicago score and concede goals at an insane rate than the 1 goal a game dysfunction that has been NYCFCs offense the last 3 years.
It's hard to make a case for the other clubs you listed being ahead of us but I could see how neutrals find NYCFC hard to watch. We have a very strong defense so the opposition isn't going to score much. Combine that with our offense which consists of high possession but an inability to finish and do much of anything with it and you get some pretty boring soccer. Even a defensive focused, park the bus type team, like Minn was last year creates excitement on the break and set pieces.
I think all that could change with a new #9. Pascal was trying to get the team to break out and attack faster in a few of the preseason games. Maxi can't and doesn't want to play at that pace but Nico, Wolf and Ojeda looked very well suited to it. Nico has the perfect skill set to lead the charge from the CAM position. If they get a quality #9 that can play the same way, we could be in for a much more entertaining NYCFC attack.
Bogert has done this before. You have to realize that (1) we always get 1/5 on stadium atmosphere until next year finally, and (2) some of the categories are about weirdness and potential disaster and shiny new things. Just give us a stadium 4 instead of 1 (hopefully we get and deserve a 5), and we jump ahead of every team on your list except Chicago. Honestly I'm surprised Bogert doesn't grade NYCFC as a 0 on that category. As for Chicago. they seem to be a bit of a trendy pick this year. I'm not sure why but Bogert is not an outlier.
On the weirdness and disaster points, we are excessively boring. We have one of the most tightly controlled corporate personalities of any team in the league. We have no stars,* and no odd characters for better or worse. Most analysts put the team in the kind of good to pretty good level. Pascal is very good at what he does but a step down from both Ronny and even Nick as a character. Can you see Pascal singing a drunken bawdy song like Nick after the 2021 MLS Cup win? I can't. I like him but he's boring as a personality. He won't even wear an old undershirt to a video interview. Nearly naked push-ups, referee rants, and disquisitions about printers, are probably not happening.
On the more positive points, we have one player who scored double digit goals last year and he scored -- 11. As for shiny new things, we have no new players about whom a neutral is likely to say "I can't wait to see what he does!" I'm not even sure Sylla would have moved that needle much, though he probably would have raised our score a bit.
* Maxi? He deserved to be a bigger MLS star than he became, but he didn't, and he'll be 39 next week.

The Post has done a nice job covering us over the years. Some peaks and valleys to be sure, but this reporter is doing a nice job and providing more content than we've ever had before.

I don't know what the situation is or was over at the Post, but I like the fact that they have returned to a beat writer with a by line and not a wire service as it was for awhile..
But then again who knows nowadays? Hell, Christian Arnold could be an AI bot for all we know.

LOL. I actually know him personally. Covered the Rangers for a while and has been around NYC newspapers for over 10 years. He's a legit reporter too, not some guy on his first beat.
