NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Khedira has 2 years on his contract and his value is north of $20 million. We're never going to pay that from all indications. I can mostly understand why Juventus let Pirlo go without a fee, but why the hell would they do it again for the much younger Khedira?
All indications had us passing on the draft this year and yet we made an enormous splash in the 1st round. If there's one thing this club is good at, it's doing the exact opposite of what people expect.

Not sure what Doyle is talking about. Khedira is 29, and he is EXACTLY what we most need on the team.
Doyle is going off talking points and isn't trying/(capable) to produce analysis. Vieira may have said that but it doesn't mean it's what we'll do - misinformation during negotiations is a norm.

If a transfer fee is just tacked onto a player's salary, considering Khedira would be a DP, his effect on the salary cap would be the DP limit. So, NYCFC could pay as high as a transfer fee as they want and it wouldn't make a difference on the salary cap. On the income statement, though, it would be a different matter.

$20M would be far and away the highest transfer to MLS.

Not sure $20M is what he would command, but it would be something. He was not even that high when he went to Real Madrid at 23, and of course his last transfer was a free.

Khedira is a legit world class defensive minded mid that can play box to box. He's on one of the best teams in the world. He's 29. I'm surprised we even have a chance for him. Does Doyle actually think we can get better than that?
I wonder if this talk is the spur for the Emre Can to Juve talk. Maybe they want to make this happen and are looking for alternatives.

As an LFC and NYCFC supporter, I can say with confidence that I would take Khedira over Can on either team. I'm about sick of Can's shit this year. He is not up for it this year for some reason. Still looks slow since his preseason injury.

Ever time I read that Juve is interested in him I shake my head...cause it has to be about replacing Khedira. Doesn't make sense to have both. I know Juventus is stacked, but Khedira is a pivotal part of the team. I don't know how Emre makes them better. It seems like more of win for LFC to get rid of him than Juve getting him.

As a Juventus and NYCFC supporter I can also say with confidence that I would choose Sami.

Maybe they're after a younger D amid. Someone who we know and would never consider to be on our radar

They probably haven't spent a lot of their targeted allocation money yet, so there's a chance they could make a pretty big non-DP signing still. Hopefully that will be on the backline.

From reading the article, they made it out to be that CFG wanted to purchase him for a team other than Man City

Josh Gatt would be a low risk high reward signing. He is looking for a squad right now after having been injured for the last two years pretty much, but pre-injury, was one of our most promising Euro-based prospects. Could probably sign him for around $100k. He was trialing with 2.Bundesliga Nuremberg but they passed because of injury concern.

He had(has) a super high ceiling and he's lighting fast. I'd take a flier on him for that amount - we need more domestic players that can get regular minutes.

Others have starting mentioning his name as an expendable as a result of the Dax move but I would certainly prefer Matt Polster over our current "alternatives" as a defensive mid in the AI role even as a backup or starting place holder for Khedira. He is very good defensively and also controls and distributes well. And he's a coachable kid.

How about the Keagan Dolly rumors
I'd sign him

That was indeed the case. His agent confirmed the plan was to ship him to NYCFC, however he turned down the move citing interest from Champions League clubs.

The agent also compared the South African league to MLS.

Jonathan Spector has received an MLS offer according to a Birmingham City journalist on Twitter named @BrianDick.

Would love him here as a RB/CB/CDM. Start at one spot and backup the others. Or start in a 3-man backline.

Always liked Spector, and he really is versatile being able to play every position across the back line. Would be able to facilitate a back three formation since he can man-mark wingers and post up against forwards.
