NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I think a good MLS team could compete in say the Championship, and it's starting 11 could compete in the lower levels of the EPL. But where even good MLS clubs fall is depth. Take Robbie Keane, a Dempsey or a Jermaine Jones out and replace him with a guy making 60k a year and you start losing. So in my opinion LA or Dallas or DC could play the West Broms of the world in a one off game, they would get relegated for sure over the course of a season.

Let's wait til the transfer window closes and I'll give you my prediction for MLS cup. ;)

Thx Magnus, you are indeed a smart Jewish guy :)

curious: which club do you think will win MLS this year and where does the club stand if it belongs to EPL/SerieA/Bundesliga/La Liga? Very bottom? or low end of middle range? and how much gap is there between NYCFC and that club?

Somewhere between 12-17th IMO but above relegation.

And I am talking about the MLS Cup winner. Think most playoff teams would finish in the relegation zone or championship level.

MLS's problem isn't necessarily talent, but like Pax mentioned a little bit, depth would kill them throughout the season.

LA Galaxy.

EPL - Europa League
Serie A - Out of Europe
Bundesliga - Europa League
La Liga - Out of Europe

We're a ways away from that level.

I'm guessing you've never actually met and spoke to Kreis before. If you had, Tom Cruise wouldn't be your first analogy. Kreis is a very intense man, and way more intimidating than Arena or Preki.
I just said that in the precise post you quoted that I met him and spoke to him at the airport. I believe it was MSP last year. We discussed how I was going to his hometown, and he and Miles were on their way to the all star game. Pretty sure I posted about it in the shoutbox. It was live all the time back then.

And the joke had nothing to do with Tom Cruise's height and way more to do with his scientology practice. There's a whole interview on youtube. Multiple ones, actually, where he talks about how he knows he can help people because he's different. Jud Apatow has used the line in one of his movies, I believe.

I find it odd that you're intimidated by Kreis, and that you're obsessively defending his ability to kick Mario's ass. How the hell does that help the team?

I took the analogy to mean Tom Cruise is really short but (in movies at least) generally plays a badass who can beat up comparative giants.
That would have worked. I was going with the whole quote a movie line based on making fun of Cruise's awesome Scientology powers, though. See above. And here. Warning though, it's an 11 on the unintentional humor scale. Same score on the creepy scale.

I'm struggling to see how any of this is related to NYCFC players Wanted thread. Can we agree to mind-numbing argue about coaches on only 1 or two threads?

It was about players. Then someone went all "my dad can beat up your dad" about it.

Other people have already said similar, but I think the top 1-3 MLS sides are "lower table but not quite relegated" Premiership quality.

More broadly, I've been trying to figure out where MLS fits in overall. It's not top 3 (In no particular order Prem, Bundesliga, La Liga). Serie A has a higher top end, less sure how the bottom compares. I'd guess MLS is better than the Championship, but that's derived from my initial assessment, since I only really watch "Championship" sides the year after they they're promoted into the Premiership. So...top 10?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not at all familiar with the level of play in the Championship league. But given that their team salaries range from 7 million to 40 million pounds, spent freely without DP rules etc, it would be shocking if even the worst Championship teams were not competitive in MLS.

The lowest wage bill in the Premier league on the other hand is 21 million pounds, and that is an outlier. This is still higher than NYCFC, Toronto or the LA Galaxy.

Basically, asserting that any MLS team could avoid relegation in the Premier league seems absolutely nuts to me unless you think that MLS players are massively undervalued or that their executives are geniuses.

(Just realized I used figures for the 2013-14 season, since wages have presumable risen I think that only makes the point stronger)

Can we sign Marion Balotelli? He would be a PR machine and score a bunch of goals.

Would definitely be a possibility. Him and Pirlo are close friends, so it'd be good chemistry. Although he's had a few past rough seasons...

I'm sure he'd do well in the MLS. If we were to sign him, we'd most likely be able to get him as a non-DP considering there's rumors of him going to a Serie C team... and there's no way they'd pay him over $700k there.

But it's too late for all that now, we'll have to wait until the next transfer window.

Wow. We can't wait for your prediction. Are you Simon or Doyle?

It's not the best comparison (small sample size, health) but Sebastian Lletget couldn't get into the West Ham squad (a mid table Premier League team), yet has looked like a strong player for the Galaxy. Depth is the real killer as mentioned, but so is defense. With so much money (DPs) and international slots going towards attack in MLS, Premier League teams would rip the back lines to shreds.

Could the Galaxy or top MLS teams beat a Premier League team in a single game? Sure. Could they win enough not to get relegated? Not right now, in my opinion. Maybe in a couple years when there are more players on homegrown contracts that add talented depth without a cap hit.

Thing is, other teams can do it. Look at LA has 3 highly paid DPs yet they have depth. Maybe the trick lies in having an academy to suppliment the roster. Watching the CCL last night, they have some good contributing kids out there. Surely that helps with cap.

dont you have orphans to punch or puppies to run over? Is it all about the schtick for you? Why even post that?

If we got rid of Nemec, is there a chance we could sign Alan Gordon for next season? I bet they're around the same value.

Or maybe the trick is to not have your depth consist of players such as KWS, Nemec, and Grabavoy
