Nycfc V Revs Motm And Post Game

My big takeaway from tonight is that the team isn't ready for Iraola, and they won't understand what to do with him until Pirlo is on the pitch. Pirlo will be comfortable with the idea of an attacking wingback, serve him properly, and fill the hole as needed. Iraola was absurdly open for huge amounts of the match, waving his arm for a pass, and no pass came.

Angelino was fun to watch, but his inexperience did shine through from time to time. Very sad to see him subbed in favor of Wingert, but Kreis probably thought Angelino was gassed. Still, given the situation, I'd take a gassed Angelino and his creativity in attack over Wingert, though my tune would have changed if Wingert had netted that shot at the end.

I was shocked at how much difficulty we had breaking down NE's defense, but as was noted above most of our midfielders were incapable of beating a tackle.

Disappointing.

Completely uninspiring performance. No successful creativity whatsoever. It seemed like every pass was a little bit off; every player just a little bit slow.

Angelino seemed to be the only player with pace and creativity, but I assume that he was gassed early.

Saunders had a good game, although his technique is sloppy at times.

After they got the one strike, the energy from our guys just seemed to drop.

Ballouchy and Grabavoy were terrible. Hernandez, not much better.

Burn the tape and move on.

Totally uninspired and seriously concerning performance tonight. I'll be honest, I'm pissed off. Just pissed right the fuck off. From every single player that pulled on our shirt tonight to Jason fucking Kreis. I truly question their effort and his decision making.

Edit: there are a few guys whose effort tonight I don't question. But I don't feel like splitting hairs right now.

I don't think I'm going to write up a full reaction to this match. After the 30th minute or so, our player weren't there. But I love how the picture used on the MLSsoccer.com write up is this...Defender's hand grabbing an arm, attacker with nobody to beat with the ball in the box #InstantReplay

I think we win that game 2-1 with 11 men and two Villa penalties at home. The officiating did us no favors.

Hernandez was terrible. Shockingly poor. I have to hope that Mena can come in and start for us.

Angelino was very strong in the first half but clearly has some conditioning work to do - wore down in a big way as the game went on.

As usual, I saw a few things I liked out of Mullins, but he's not starting quality yet. Ditto for Tommy Mac, although he's closer, IMO.

After being cornered into watching the Boston feed for that game, those announcers had my blood pressure soaring. There's your normal biased announcing, and then there's what I heard tonight.

New England is the MLS 1.0 dream. A relatively cheap and athletic team housed in a football stadium that hits you on the break with just enough technical skill to beat you on the dribble. They're honestly not a great team this year, but they've got quite a few guys who would play major minutes for us right now.

As much as we need Pirlo and #8, I think we need George John more.

Edit: Ditto to the turf comments. That had a serious, serious impact on that game. It's not a wonder they don't lose at home that often - they're built to play on that shitty field.
Raise your glass and your ire at Kreis, man. His shitty management reduced our chances of winning by half at least. His personnel decisions and tactical setup either one had twice the impact of the turf. As I've said before, he's lost his mind.

It's not the first time it has happened to a sports figure in this town. It's not the last. At this point, it's hard to justify his decisions in anyway other than trying to ride it out to get his boys a payday.

Apologies in advance for once again pointing out how fucking wrong you are on a regular basis. I promise I'll stop as soon as you stop making excuses for Kreis.

I have zero interest in arguing with you tonight, dude. I didn't even talk about Kreis.

I don't remember when during the match but Ian and Joe were talking about the fouls and cards and Ian was like, "Let's just blame everything on the ref." It was sarcastic but it was definitely funny.

That was really difficult to watch. Gene if your reading this I'm sure you had more fun watching Drew Mackentrye and the Wrasstling than any of us who actually watched this garbage.

We were terrible after they scored. Angelino and maybe Facey were alright. Facey got burned a few times but made some huge recovery tackles.

For the first time I'm leaning toward the Saunders out side. Yeah he only gave up the one goal but a pro keeper has to be able to distribute. Totally killed a move late when we needed it.

We did get some bad breaks. The Turf might have caused a problem or two. As much as I don't generally want Grabavoy on the field I really don't think that was a red. Not sure I agree with the Hernadez yellow either. Bunbury was consistently following and nothing? I feel guilty that I kind of like his sister on Dome lol.

Biggest issue for me was speed of attack. Especially once we were ten me. We kept slowing it down allowing them to get everyone behind the ball and make it tough to breakdown.

I'm sort of pissed that Mix didn't even see the field for the Nats today. We could have 100 percent used him. If he's not going to play I don't want him there.

Let us all pray Pirlo and Frank are ready to go on Sunday. This was the hardest game to watch since the losing streak.
