Nycfc's Usl Pro Affiliate Will Be Wilmington Hammerheads Fc

Good idea at face value but don't know if it works when you look at the details. You immediately inherit a team full of players - is that allowed? The team wants to develop an NYCFC2 - can they rebrand? The team will want to be located in or around New York City - can they move? Would the team prefer to start fresh?

I would imagine if they didn't want to start fresh, they would have just purchased a team already.

True. Just spitballin'.

I hate the idea of an NYCFC II. The USL needs to grow a little bit of a backbone and protect themselves from slipping too far into a reserve league. If they want to be a minor league, they need to protect their image as a minor league.

They were actually just talking about that on Soccer Morning this morning

Let's revive this thread.

The team wants a NYC2 but realistically is looking at another year of affiliation.

Wilmington and Harrisburg appear to be the top candidates.
Wilmington fired a lot of their staff who had connections to NYCFC's old staff. Not sure the connection are there any more for this affiliation to continue.

Louisville City FC looked great last year, maybe they are open to it with Orlando dropping them.

No one I've spoken to at Wilmington has any idea if they're reviving it so it seems unlikely now. The club president won't be back until later in the week so hopefully we hear by then but my best guess is Cincinnati FC with Harrisburg City next in line.

i thought cincinnati wanted to be its own sort of independent franchise with not MLS connection though i think i remember columbus was their rumored MLS partner.

FWIW, I just went to their web page and they still list themselves as a NYCFC affiliate.

they are just about to get new owners i dont think affiliation is in the top of their to do list.
That should actually make it higher on their to do list - starting a new season as new owners, it'd be nice to get a few MLS players to bolster their lineup, and it'd be good for us to get some playing time for our fringe players.

True but i kept reading their stadium needs some maintenance and also they were short on non playing staff and previous owner left lots of holes in operations etc.

I went to Wilmington for about 3 nights a couple years ago for work. It is a nice town. But I think 3 nights there was my limit.

have worked there a few times, driven through it plenty. it makes me sad. luckily, Philly is 45 mins away and the DE beaches are an hour and change. So there's that.
