Official 2016 Nycfc Roster Discussion Thread

This.

I also wonder if this affects Poku. When Mix is in for Pirlo, you no longer need as much defensive cover. So does Mikey come out? Does that reopen the spot for Poku? Does a second season with this much bench time light a fire under Poku to play harder D?

This is an interesting thought. Maybe Vieira has grouped his guys into "lines" like hockey. First line is Bravo-Pirlo-Lopez with McNamara on the wing. Second line is Mix-Poku-McNamara with Mendoza/Taylor/Harrison on the wing. We haven't seen the second "line" recently because we've had a paced out schedule, but with Bravo out and three games in a week, maybe the second line will start @ Portland, back to the first line in Toronto and against the Red Bulls.

Probably not that cut and dry, but I could see these groupings as a theme of the lineup construction.

I think he's going with the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" mind set. He may very well have a second line ready to go in a congested schedule, but I'd wager TMac stays up on the wing since he's developing a chemistry with Villa. I also think the Second line you mention has limited bite to nullify attacks. Lastly, Pirlo will probably play Portland and skip Toronto so he has more time to recover with only the flight back to NY and a full week. I think the Toronto game is where we're more likely to see the second line players (+bravo) while the first line rests for RB.

I don't think Poku finishes the year here.

I tbink Mix ends up back in Europe next winter.

Mix fits in the system, he just fits in Pirlo's spot. Pirlo won't play forever - I cannot imagine him here next year unless we win it all, but even then it'd be a good time for him to retire - so Mix will fill that spot next year.
Pirlo is under contract for next season, I'm not sure if Mix is.

Citation? I've never seen a report on Mix's contract length. Or a definitive answer on the 3rd year option (although I bet it is Pirlo's).

Going by memory on this one. MLS never releases contract details so we can only go by speculation in the media. The word was that the hold up in Pirlo's contract just before his signing was that he wanted a guaranteed third year, and he got it.
Not that it matters much because Lampard was under contract in the fall of 2014 and then, nah just playing.

I don't remember hearing that at all re guaranteed third year. Everything I read was about a 3rd year option, but the speculation was around whether it was a player option or team option.

Lurch starts in Toronto = confirmed

Not sure it has been noted elsewhere but Nick C reported that others had reported that Mullins may be in the Chateau Bow Wow and on the way out after a blow-up with PV about playing time. Rumors at this point, but if true could be interesting.

ICYMI, I've seen rumors on soc. media that Mullins had a spat w/ Vieira about playing time and is likely on his way out, perhaps very soon.

I was wondering where this came from, someone asked me this last night. I thought it came out of nowhere, hadn't heard anything of the sorts.

Though FWIW, I think Mullins, Poku and Mena are likely on the trade block anyways.

I could see this, he seems to have bit of an ego and a temper. He's definitely yelled at Villa before for not passing him the ball even when Villa took a good shot. A level of confidence and self belief that's essential to be a good ST, but probably not the best charter traits to tolerate sitting on the bench and not getting the time you think you deserve.

I don't think it makes any sense for Mix to leave after the season when more midfield spots will start to open up, unless the Club decides he's just not good enough to justify that salary.

One midfield spot opens up for sure next year (Lampard) and possibly another if Bravo isn't here.

Always good to base statements on social media tumors. He's a hack. Even if it pans out, he's simply guessing.
