Official: Nycfc Signs Andoni Iraola

Interesting that in the official announcement Kries points out that he can play multiple positions. I wonder if he will play some place other than RB. Obviously RB is a huge need, but he is probably more skilled than most of our midfield players.

Quote: Jason Kreis said. “We are adding a versatile player like Andoni who is comfortable playing in a number of different positions within the team. We are adding a great professional and a very experienced player.”

It's interesting because it doesn't make sense. Iraola has pretty much exclusively played RB. In addition, right back is pretty much our weakest position. It's a 100% natural fit.

If we played a wide midfield or with wingers, maybe I could see Iraola filling in higher on the pitch. But we don't. We play narrow except for the fullbacks.

It's Kreis. He talks out of his ass all the time. Just like when he said Lampard wasn't staying with MC.

Quadruple rep. Our fullbacks suck. He is a very, very good right back, which happens to be one of the aforementioned fullback positions at which we suck.

Why do we have to test him out? Fucking write his name on the lineup sheet at his natural position and send his ass out there. We don't need to convene a meeting of the brain trust to figure out where to play him. Just stupid as hell for him to say that.

"Well, we're really happy with our better-as-bartender option or the guy who we found coaching YSL whose best defensive play is a two-arm shove in the back." Okay, Jason. Okay. We definitely need him to be versatile to contribute. Kreis is on drugs. It's the only explanation. SOB came to NYC and developed a drug problem. Damn.

I guess it's deserved for all of us plastics.

Haha I think everyone is looking into those quotes a little too much. I think Kreis is just saying he's versatile so in a pinch he could fill other needs.

I think some of you guys are reading too much into Kreis' statement on him. To me, this is more standard, coach-talk, they guy can play RM and RB. He will play RB, and until Kreis says more on his positioning or plays him somewhere else, I would hold back on reading too much into this statement.
