I've watched all of our games this year. We're slow in the backline. I honestly think strength isn't the problem. It's how slow our backline is - they get caught flat footed. Maybe a reason they wanted to try Facey as a CB.

Quickness can be made up for with intelligence and anticipation. I assume Gooch would provide that.

Im excited about this move, if it pans out. I'd say the range of possibilities go from he blows and his mobility problems make him ineffective in MLS all the way to being a 6'4" dominant threat on set pieces and a smart CB who can make up for a lack of pace with positioning. I'd say he'd instantly be a leader on defense. Really hoping this works out.

I'd like this too. While he won't address the lack of pace, we have had several instances where we are grossly undersized. He would bring a real physical presence back there.

Actually you can't overestimate the importance of the partnership. Meaning that, no matter how much you emphasise the point, that wouldn't be too much.

(Sorry; but this misuse is kind of a pet peeve of mine, like "could care less".)

Anyway, while the partnership between the centre-halves is very important, in the case of a team that is floundering, the most pressing need is to get the best possible players in there.

Happy to take a look at him for a trial and see if it works out. Absolutely loved him before that knee injury, if he comes cheap then we have nothing to lose. Especially in a season like this, we really need some organization and leadership in the backline for starters.

He's not very fast, so center back is the only option. If he can still move reasonably well, he could be a really nice upgrade

So far in the training photos from this week there is no sign of Wingert, Calle, Williams, or Watson. Seems crazy but we might see Onyewu play this weekend.
