Philly Postmatch

come on new york ohhh oh ohhhh i dont know if anyone on tv/ online heard it but it was so loud at least in the supporters sections felt like once everyone sang one song together.

take the three points and lets move on the next.....but it sure was worth getting sun burn from standing in supporters section

Night and day between Harrison and Shelton my goodness. Everytime Jack has the ball he has shown to be dangerous moving forward, and if he is not moving forward he makes a great decision playing it back or to the middle.
Not sure if I like this post or the play of Jack Harrison. I think I like both. Well played.

So, name the Englishman who is a recent addition to the starting lineup and is totally transforming how we build and finish.
The asshole who should have shown up 18 months ago.
I think he meant Harrison...
Works for either.....
Based on his Twitter I think you're right, but I thought cookie burger was good today and not just with the goal.
Jack Harrison

I was mostly trying to stimulate a discussion of each. For me, Harrison is having a huge impact. He is providing that last pass that we've been missing. He is so dangerous going forward that it opens up space for other players. He is a game changer.

And yes, I thought SFL played very well yesterday.

I don't understand the comments about horrible subs and final 15 minutes. With a 3-0 lead PV went into lockdown with 2 defensive subs (White, Lopez) for players who no longer had the energy for more offense (TMac, Lamps). Then he put fresh legs on offense in Poku who did exactly what Poku does and pushed around and bossed the Philly players trying to defend him and/or compete for long balls.

As for the last 15 minutes, the Brillant goal was a fluke and even down a man we had far better chances than Philly. We easily should have scored two more.

I get it that we all rightly felt nervous given how often we have blown games late. But that anxiety shouldn't change the facts on the field. PVs subs were right on imho and our last 15 was pretty good (again, all things considered) minus a finish or two from El Capitan.

One of the things about JH I'm excited about is how he plays a lot bigger than his size and is able to fight off defenders and tackles. He looked like BeastMode bouncing through initially on that long run that lead to the heel flick to Villa. That's a huge asset to an already impressive skill set.

Good call. It is fairly amazing how much more physical he is than Shelton given their relative size. I was approaching him with modest expectations, for this season at least, given that nobody had ever seen him against real competition. But, to come in at his age and really impact games from day one is astounding. Such a bright spot after some really tepid wing play for most of the season.

Credit to the team for getting that pick right.

I agree. Part of the problem, I thought, was that we didn't seem to know what to do when PV wanted to play five across the back. Mata immediately starting really pushing up in full wingback mode and there was tons of space behind him. But, this wasn't supposed to be three at the back with wing backs -- it was supposed to be five across to lock it down.

When you're 19, you're unstoppable. That's the mindset.

On a separate note, the three kids sitting next to me heard me talking about Harrison and said they know him - they were teammates at Manhattan Soccer club.

I thought they were going to a 442 with Mata pushing to the midfield and Hernandez playing the outer CB with White in the middle since he's better in the air. With Mata making the runs, it seemed right.

I had no issue with who was brought on, but rather who was taken off, namely TMac as the first when Hernandez was both on a yellow and getting turned quite a bit. Figured it would be a same-type sub to get energy back there but still keep our shape. And selfishly I was hoping it was Hernandez because I don't rate him and alway think he's a liability. Yesterday proved it by taking a second yellow near midfield.

Mikey was a good sub as was Poku.

I dont understand people blaming Brillant for that goal. Carroll headed that ball with force. Brillant tried to make a play and it went in. Hard to blame anyone. Except maybe Saunders lol just because I think he is complete garbage.

Maybe "trying to make a play" shouldn't consist of turning his head towards his own net while "defending" a header?

Maybe you are right. If so, it looked like Hernandez was playing far too tight. Perhaps the fact that we can't even figure out exactly what they were doing indicates that it didn't work quite right!
