USMNT Talk

Hopefully, Klinsmann takes a lot from that 2nd half. We need Nagbe and Pulisic to start. We need Bradley to play deeper.

I like Wood, and he did great on the assist for the game winner, but he did fail to exploit a couple of long balls with a first touch that should have been better.

Yedlin's move to get free down the right side on the goal sequence was sick.

Dempsey
Pulisic - Nagbe - Bedoya
Bradley - Jones
FabJo - Brooks - Cameron - Yedlin
Gotta get Jones out of there. I don't know what the alternative is, maybe Good Mix?

Fine with all of that, but Bedoya is garbage. He is a ho-hum type player, and as a winger, he has to be able to make an impact.

edit- take Jones out and play Wood next to Dempsey. 4-1-3-2. at a certain point, JK (and any manager) has to realize that playing an aging player until they drop is only hurting future growth of other players and the team. I'd rather take lumps for a cycle, but get youth experience much like how Germany dumped their entire team and started over with the current golden generation, rather than play the old guys so long that when they do finally get kicked to the curb, the new blood has had zero opportunities to gel in a hostile tournament(s). With that said, I'm close to wanting to bench Dempsey (as a super sub) and play Wood & Morris up front as a new standard tandem.

Is the bedoya garbage thinking based on the one game that JK played him as a CDM? I think he's been good for us for a long time.

Nope. I don't feel like he ever makes any sort of monumental contribution. It's like his area of the field becomes a big wasteland of nothingness - nothing positive and usually nothing negative - and for a winger, that's a problem since we like to hit the end lines as much as possible. He's neither overly fast, nor overly technical, nor dominant in the air, nor a creative cog to run the play through, nor a lockdown midfielder. To me, he's no better than about 2-dozen other players that are competent but not MNT quality.

Would I consider him garbage on a middling MLS team, probably not. Do I consider him garbage on the International stage, every time he takes the field.

This is kind of where I sit with Bedoya. I've just never really seen him do much for the USMNT. At the same time, I also haven't come away from matches where he has played thinking he completely sucked.

Who should that player playing on the right wing be? I'm not completely sure, and I guess that's why I wouldn't be too upset with Bedoya out there. I'm not a big Zusi fan, but what are the other options? (including those not on the current Copa roster)

Ethan Finley? Could Lee Nguyen play out there? I'm also not a big Zardes fan, but maybe him?

Reaching younger, Kiesewetter? Hyndman? Julian Green? (Admittedly I don't know a whole ton about these guys positional abilities, just throwing some names out there.)

I don't know the answer to that because I don't know the entire player pool and I'm sure there's a youngster out there with a higher ceiling than we realize. Of the players you mention, I'd like to see Finley or kiesewetter be given a lot of consecutive starts - both are ridiculously fast and technical. Already that's more positive than I can say about Bedoya.

I understand taking it slow with Pulisic (though I disagree and think he should be for Zardes). But Nagbe has to be in there ahead of bedoya.

Klinsmann is finally starting Bradley at a deep midfield position, but Besler at LB????? WTF?

I'm not super thrilled with Jermaine in there, and Yedlin starting, and Orozco at RB, but I can live with those in a friendly. But Besler at LB? Unless he's trying to assess if anyone can play back there besides Fabian since he left Ream off the roster?

With the backline, I think he's just seeing who can handle what in a friendly. I think the backline is set with yedlin - Geoff - brooks - Fabian. Giving the fullbacks a rest. No reason for that with nagbe, he only played 30' last match. Need to give them time to click.

Two assists in the first half vs. Bolivia tonight... ;)
Have you been watching Bolivia - they're horrible & didn't even get all of their players until a day ago. Wait and see if he can do anything in a game that matters.

And here's the starting lineup I think we all want to see! Let's see how they do for the last 3rd.

Pulisic wood Dempsey
Nagbe Bradley JJ
Fabian brooks Geoff yedlin
Guzan

Bolivia match was worth the watch to see Pulisic score his first international goal. What with Nagbe bagging his first intl. goal v Ecuador, this series of friendlies has been good for the future of the USMNT.

Guess I'll wear my Pulisic BVB jersey to the Orlando match tomorrow.

Imagine Villafana at lb and a front 3 of FJ, BW, CP. Now that would be nasty, at least for the US. 3 Bundesliga attackers, 2 from champions league. Yes, please.

So I was browsing ESPN.com earlier today and came across a "Copa America Fan Guide" on there that I hadn't seen before. I don't really put much weight into soccer coverage that that site has, but it was still something else to read, so I started to browse through.

I would suggest that ESPN.com actually get people to write these "fan guides" that actually somewhat follow the USMNT and the sport.

The predicted lineup they have is a 4-4-2, which based after our friendlies, looks like it is more likely to be a 4-3-3, but I'll give that a pass.

Who does the starting lineup contain? Well, Tim Ream (he who is not on the Copa roster) is manning LB and Jozy (he who is injured) is taking one of the striker positions.

Oh, and Jozy is also listed as the "Key Player" for the USA.

Now this may have been written a while ago, but you would hope that they would update it as the roster was finalized.
