“We want to be New Yorkers. We are building a truly authentic New York team. This is not a Manchester City team or a brand play or a marketing trick - this is real”. Ferran Soriano, CEO of New York City, has repeated that line so often that you could be forgiven for thinking he felt his dual role as CEO of Manchester City raised suspicions.

I can't believe any of them can come here and say nothing deceitful has occurred and we are the spoiled cunts in the face of that paragraph...

I agree Soriano needs to find a New Yorker to run the club. This way at least there's someone 100% committed to NYCFC when these types of issues come up. After all he is not running Melbourne is he. Seems only fair.

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the site. I'm a season ticket holder and bought my tickets regardless of Frank Lampard coming to NYCFC. I care more about a team actually playing in the city and not having to drive to a different state to see a team play. The way the news was delivered was a disappointment from NYCFC, Manchester City, and CFG. Other sports franchises have let their fans know of upsetting player decisions in a much better way. The news doesn't surprise me, but it was very disappointing to hear. I'd be glad to see Lampard play for NYCFC at some point this season, hopefully in a playoff surge to win the MLS Cup. Until then, he really should be removed from the roster on NYCFC's website, where he is still listed as a player.

Either the Yankees fucked up royally and have no idea how soccer works, or Manchester City fucked up royally and has no idea how New York City works.

I don't recall hearing or seeing anywhere that the Yankees would be handling PR and/or marketing.

I think this has pretty much nailed it. I dont think anyone set out to "lie" or "deceive" but as circumstances changed, someone made a call and created a clusterfuck. Everyone can see a statement should have been made or the absolute bare minimum a replacement being sorted out before saying FL would be staying. The upshot is that there are a lot, of rightly pissed off fans seeing a deception has occurred. This has partly come from the Yankees fucking up royally and thinking players and contracts are set in stone, They are not, they have not been for a long time in the world of soccer (rightly or wrongly). Equally CFG have fucked up thinking New York would settle for saying one thing and doing another, no matter how much the circumstances have changed. What makes things worse is that the owners tend not to make too many statements about anything that is on field related. Yes, stadium expansion, sponsor deals, academy expansion and other longer term projects but not on the field.
There were all sorts of strange happenings at Man City when they first took over. Gary Cook had a terrible time and suspicions ran deep. Slowly though it has turned round. I would be surprised if they were not trying to sort something out. I guess when cultures first clash, remember this has never been done anywhere in the world to this scale. Fuck ups will happen. Even at fan level, twenty fans would have 15 different ways of sorting out a problem. What i hope happens is that lessons are learned and the CFG quickly realise things will have to be different if they want to succeed. My guess is that they will learn and will succeed, they have put an awful lot of money into the club and i dont think it is for them to just burn it.
I hope NYCFC fans don't turn their back on Man City, there almost certainly will be more problems, there always are but the most important is to hold in there and work together to make NYCFC the best club in the CONCACAF region and to see them become a club New York can be proud of. Who knows sometime in the future with the financial backing and clout New York has, it may well be Man City wondering if they can get the next Patrick Mullins at the back end of his career.

Friend, thoughtful post. The thing you're missing though, is for most of us, just as for most Citeh fans, is that we only care about our team. If the owners don't manage our club with an acknowledgment of that fact, then this club will suffer the same fate as Chivss. It's just facts. They seem to believe we yanks have no understanding nor true passion for the game here. How wrong they are can't be overstated. We, probably moreso than anywhere else, care first for the game here. Even as we set viewing records, we're still a minority, those of us who love soccer. And we still have an overarching sense of community among all fans of soccer in the U.S.

That is what CFG bought into, and they will acquiesce or suffer the loss of their investment and the diminishment of their brand stateside. So yes, we'll keep our backs turned to them until they prove a commitment under our perspective. To do otherwise would be disingenuous to why we are even here supporting a team who hasn't "kicked a ball in anger". I've said it 50 times, but most here would be here no matter the owner.

We don't care about City. And City doesn't care about us. CFG may, but they aren't off to a cracking start. We'll all have to wait and see.

You city folk should be happy. I'd expect it and can't find fault. Similarly, we should be and are absolutlely furious at the deceit and disregard the club has shown.

They've squandered an almost locked up stadium deal, posed us in MCFC replica kits and taken away a player, forced upon our top notch manager who didn't seem to want him to begin with, in a manner unbecoming to all involved.

My back has been and will continue to be turned to MCFC. I don't blame you nor any of your manc pals for trying to spin it but as far as I'm concerned, all of us here in NYC are justified in treating CFG with extreme prejudice. Any negative feelings, press and economic consequences are not happenstance. They are well earned.
If you want to blame it on Lampard, go ahead. I think there is likely plenty of blame to lay at his filthy feet. But I always heard this, and believe it to be true to this day: when you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas.

I have no problem with you as an individual not being interested in Man City, as you say, it's your team, likewise there are 1000s of Man City fans that have no interest in NYCFC. Other NYCFC fans however do have interests in other clubs, Swansea C, Everton, Liverpool, Roma, Chelsea even man u, as do other Man City fans. Personally, i don't really get my head round that but whose problem is that? Mine. I have absolutely no right to judge or dictate how you and your fellow fans go about your business. What will mark you and your club is how you all support and react to NYCFC and that is the business of only, all of you and no one else. Equally, there will be some interest in NYCFC from Man City fans as some NYCFC fans will show an interest in Man City. How will all this pan out only time will tell.

What i can say though from experience, not just in England but several other countries is amongst this clusterfuck, the only innocent party is the NYCFC fans and it is always the fans that bear the brunt of owners decisions. Be them overwhelmingly bad ideas to the occasional good ideas. Not everything is rosy at Man City, there are terrible problems, for example with atmosphere. An entire end was given over to family seating, which on Monday morning ideas brain storming meeting, probably came over as a good idea, in reality it is too large and there are gaps in the seating when people cannot get there. The seats are sold but behind the gol (which everyone sees) it looks awful. The positioning of away fans, is ridiculous. They have some of the best seats in the house (again behind the goal) and are visible and together, whereby when they sing it is loud and proud. The point i am making is that these are things that are not unique. Owners will have different agendas and different angles because they are not fans and their perspective is different. It's a heads up, whilst i am sure you know that, in the context of seeing if they will "make things up" don't fully expect it, unless it suits.

I guess another perspective to this is that I have no doubt you would be here, no matter the owner but the beast would be different. I was born long after my club was born. I have known my club for what they are and for years we were shit. I mean shit but we followed them, often to grounds where there were few home fans and we wondered where they were when they were shit. You have a marvellous opportunity of being at the front of the queue and being able to shape the club for how you want it. That will be limited though, unfortunately as the club is owner based rather than fan based. Ultimately, he has the big boy pants on. As this clusterfuck has shown. I am not surprised you are fuckin fuming, i would be. You had a blank page and he has took it off you and said, can you fill in the colours.... not quite what you had planned. I hope this illustrates, i have some understanding of what you are thinking.

My reason for being here? Well for many years it was said Africa would soon win the World Cup, i thought having seen the the infrastructure and development, plus the financial backing, the US would beat them. I have kept a lazy eye on what has been happening and now NYCFC has formed, of all the teams, these would be a more natural fit. Now you can tell me to fuck off or ignore me, it really does not matter, there are people here who would talk, it is what makes following soccer fascinating, that even within fan groups there are different appeals. I do not need to spin anything, there is only one way to see what will happen and that is the actions of the fans and the club. From experience they do listen, not even would change but between you, you can shape this beast.

As for the dog. If this beast is to become a dog, i guess it is how you treat the dog as to whether it will have fleas. Not all dogs have them, those cared for and looked after, tend to avoid them.

Mr. Plow, your post and tone is reasonable but your facts and conclusions are way off. Again. Soriano. "This is not a Manchester City team or a brand play or a marketing trick." The kit alone proves this was a lie from the start as it is a complete brand play and marketing trick. And it has nothing to do with changed circumstances or good intentions gone awry. There was a reason a shitstorm arose when the kit was revealed and it's because those of us with sense knew it was a lie and presaged more betrayals to come.
I hope NYCFC fans don't turn their back on Man City,
I started out with mildly favorable views of Man City, because the Big 4 gave you shit for doing exactly what they have done for decades, which is win by virtue of having the most money and that was stupid and unfair. Then we got your hand-me-down kit and jerks from MC started telling us how grateful we should be to be associated with you. We were also told we were fools for thinking things would be different. So we were (1) lied to and then (2) told we should not have believed the lie. Like it's our fault. Now I hate the whole damn organization. There are a few decent MC fan folk like you trying to make sense of this even then you're just not helping. We want no part of you. We never did. It's not personal to you either. We wanted no part of being a ManU knockoff, or Liverpool, Chelsea, or anything. We were told--as a lie-- that despite common ownership NYC would be a completely NY original team. And telling us we'll like it someday doesn't help. New name. New kit. New ownership. Man City good-bye. I ain't gonna get it but that's what I want.

Mr. Plow -- and btw I sure hope that is a cool Simpsone reference -- you have written the most thoughtful pair of posts from a MCFC supporter I've seen here. What I said in the post just above still stands, but you are a thoughtful well-spoken gentleman.

Yeah it is. i had to kill the other 1,999 but i got there.

No worries and thanks for replying. To be fair, i did not say you would like it someday, just.... i hope.... if it doesn't work out so be it. Some will have their minds made up now, like Tom in Fairfield, others will just roll. Owners will lie, they will judge what they think is enough but it is what they do and the fans... like all fans in the end, either buy in or fuck off. The choice as ever is the individuals.

I don't think I disagree with you. I'd have to read again to be sure.

And FFF is the one with the fleas. Well, now all of us have them.

It's ok for you all to leave because you don't understand true passion supporting your team though thick even when you have been fucked over by a ref, chairman, bad manager, players but you still go every week sing your heart out even when your 4-0 down. This is coming from a season ticket holder from the last 17 years at mcfc so I know how to be fucked over and reading this forum and you cunts moaning makes me sick you haven't even kicked a ball yet! who brought David villa to the club?? Who funded your club??? Who is still putting money in the club?? Didn't villa leave melbourne early to do press and visit schools and do charity events in NYC??? When you get another star player I hope they send them Melbourne and they fucking stays there you ungrateful unloyal shit houses!
Orlando got Kaka, RB got Henry, LA had Beckham, should we be blown away with Villa? Lol

Also, Villa had to be recalled to become the face of the team because Manchester was in the process of stealing Lampard. So I wouldn't bring that up.

Agreed. Initially it appeared they were grooming Lampard to be the face of NYC. Then it slowly shifted to him being the Man On the Field. Then the tone shifted entirely to focusing solely on Villa.

Gone so soon? Damn. Didn't even have a chance to ignore him.

Does that mean we're back 999 members?

I would be. El Guaje has been in 2 of the last 4 CL Finals, He has hit double figures 15 years straight bar 1 season injured. He is a great pro and the younger forwards will learn heaps. These old dogs can pass on a few tricks.
