You Gotta See This Thread: Utter Crap Edition

I think this is the main part of it. Player was punished for picking the ball up before the whistle. We see this happen all the time on iffy calls when it's not clear if the ref already blew or not, you know the one. The player gets fouled and he or another player quickly grabs the ball. If it doesn't get called, the play doesn't stop. But usually the play either gets stopped there and sometimes that influence's the ref's decision.
This is a pet peeve of mine, when a player is fouled and grabs the ball before the whistle is blown.

IMO, should be a yellow when that happens. But perhaps that's why I'm not a ref.

the funny thing is that it's the defending team player who picks up the ball before the whistle is called, not the attacking team. he made the decision "oh damn buddy, you fouled that guy . i'll just make sure the ref kno.... OH NO!!!"

i think it'd be more understandable if the attacking team had picked up the ball cause we do see that more often as you pointed out. but for a defending team to do it instead of ignoring the foul and playing on.. i would have loved to be in that guy's head. lol.

I do agree when the attacker grabs the ball to influence the ref, it should be a yellow. unfortunately, maxi is guilty of this pretty often.

Maxi does do this all the time, haha.

On a side note, if they do build a Maxi statue at the new stadium, I really want it to be that pose he does when a foul is called on him and he puts both his hands pointing up to his face like he's saying, "what, me?"
