Pffft.. i dunno about you but i'd sure as hell be celebrating a supporters shield.
Sure, I'd celebrate it. But it's not like celebrating an MLS Cup win. There's no ticker tape parade for the Presidents' Trophy winner in the NHL either.

wow..

this is kinda huge. but understandable.

Well, the Independent Supporters Council has gotten so much criticism for their decision and original explanation that they chose to issue a second explanatory statement. Vanney is pissed off, and while it's a bit self-serving as Toronto is the clear leader right now, he makes some good points about the sacrifices players have made and how his team, in particular with the other Canadian teams, have had to be away for home for almost the entirety of the season.

Vanney's right, I think. This season has been harder on the players than any other in the league's history. Whoever wins the Shield this year will have earned it, and it's pretty petulant to say that because fans can't be in attendance, they shouldn't award it.

This strikes me as a decision made by a board of directors because they don't ever have any decisions to make.
This is the first time that I ever gave thought to how the Supporters Shield is governed (i.e. by a 501(c)(3) that is separate from the ISC, etc etc). The shield foundation website is in need of some work, to put it lightly, but their bylaws say that the Board is a minimum of 3 and no more than 7 people. I think most teams' supporter groups are finding out about it the same way we are, and now the Board has to explain themselves after the fact to them as well:
