1. Hamilton is amazing.
2. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the weak link in the cast.
I’ve heard this from other people too and there is truth in it. He’s certainly not the performer that Daveed Diggs is; Leslie Odom, Jr. is a better actor and he and Philippa Soo and Renee Elise Goldsberry are all better singers.

LMM has joked that when he mentions to the show’s producers that he’d like to step in and play Burr sometime, they just laugh and tell him it will never happen.

That said, he does bring a lot to the role. I’ve been lucky enough to see the show on Broadway with the original cast and a couple years later with their replacements. The person playing Hamilton was a much better singer and a smoother actor. However, he couldn’t rap nearly as well as LMM. Plus, LMM has a real charisma and presence that served him very well on stage, and I don’t think it translated as well on screen.

Interesting. Part of it could just be different people, different reactions, or it could be difference between stage and TV (even if it is filmed stage). But I thought he lacked presence and even on rap numbers like "My Shot" I thought he was vocally overshadowed by his cast members. And FWIW, I've listened to the cast album considerably and did not notice this, which made me think they carefully augmented him in studio.
But like I said to Midas on Twitter, LMM also wrote the damn thing which counts for a lot, and I'm willing to allow him to indulge his performance dreams even if I think his true genius is in composition.

I just finished Dark on NFLX. I enjoyed it. It kind of has a thriller/mystery story going episode to episode and makes you wonder whats going on and who is behind it; releasing the information in drips while developing the charecters. It's in german with dubs. I can't speak to the dubbing quality as i turned it off and went with subs as i usually do.

I really liked the interweaving of characters lives past & present within this little forest town. You get to see main characters as they were as teenagers then how their choices lead them to be who they are in their adult lives. You get to see the present day elderly as they were being the parents to the main cast and how their actions perpetuate the issues currently going on.

I really pull for all of the characters to be okay despite the decision they make. No one is inherently evil they are all relatable as what you'd expect normal people to do despite the sometimes fantasy things going on around them. And I love the grim overtones going on throughout the show. I don't know why; I just do. Feels like what i'd expect living in a tiny german forest town where everyone knows everyone.

My only issue is the whole story is set up upon a time paradox, but I let it go and let myself enjoy the story as it was being told despite not being logically able to have started.

As the season was drawing to a close it becomes apparent that all of the characters which were negatively effected and aware of the time travel were acting in ways that they thought would break the chain, but in actuality were the actions which perpetuate the cycle. I loved that! If only the show would have ended such that the first scenes play out again to tell the viewer they are locked in a never ending cycle..... oh man that would have left my head spinning and allowed me to sit and contemplate the sadness of the show.

Instead you get what I think happens as follows: this script is a writers beloved tragedy that they worked on for many years before finally polishing enough to pitch to a studio. The producers loved it and bought the script, on one condition, that instead of wrapping up the story in one season they get to tweak the ending to allow for future seasons should the show become a success. And now that it happened and the show gets renewed for a 2nd season, some shmuck writers are going to be hired to slap together some non-sense in 6 month with little thought, overused story tropes, glaring plot holes and unnecessary inter-character romance that don't further the story on at all but add "drama". I mean, FFS, the season ended with a character being shipped to some terminator-esque dystopian future. Blah, its like that exact scene is where the studio gashes open the potential perfect ending to create the cliffhanger extension it needed to suck the soul from the original creators intended message.
Have you been able to see all three seasons??!?! Well written plot and story from my POV, highly recommend to everyone. Season 3 was just released and my gf and I finished it last night. Incredibly well written story and actually is able to combine numerous time travelling lines and bring them all together. I'm very happy with how most items played out. I will need to rewatch it again to make sure, but I think it all comes together across all three seasons, they weren't added and mashed in an oh-shit-last-minute way. The story was meant to be three seasons, it was made into three seasons, and three seasons are all it needs. No more, no less.

I really can't recommend the show enough. As long as you are able to stand watching a show with dubs, this is an incredible watch. If you can't stand dubs, then take the next year or two to learn German and then watch the show in its native German.

I just read something that ruined the idea of time travel for me. You actually need a machine that will both transport you through time AND space. If you just went back in time, the Earth and even our solar system would be in a completely different location than it is right now. You'd be transported to the void of space. No one talks about that do they.

I think the show brings that up but off the top of my head I cannot say. You would be correct in that assumption. I guess I will have to do a deep dive into the show and see if the "& space" part of that is brought up.

that would be cool if they do. Bc almost every other time travel film/show doesn’t. And now it annoys me.

It once in a blue moon does get mentioned in the occasional hard science fiction book but generally you're right in that it's pretty much ignored. Except for Doctor Who, of course. The Doctor has a TARDIS, which stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. See? (Almost) explicitly mentioned! And half the time they end up in the wrong time and/or place anyway, so there's that, too. Which is half the fun.

i was up with season two, didn't notice the third season was out. I watch in subs, always do. I prefer to hear how the actors wanted it to sound. Dubs can be, bleh sometimes.

I do fine with all the story lines the break in seasons leaves me lost with who is who. I will finish it with my wife when i get a chance, but deffo think it would be easier to knock all three seasons out in one shot or its easy to get lost.

I always think that when I look at someones bio and was like oh where was he born.... like say the person is important in NYC culture and then his bio says he was born in kansas, im like oh thats a let down that he wasn't born in nyc and was a lifer.... then i think, so what, his X Y Z coordinate of his birth is millllllllllllion billllions of miles away....... then i get back into physics and inertial frame of refrence and try to conceptualize how the universe could be a 4d space imprinted in a 3d surface or something like that and my head gets fried and i go back to playing pokemon and pretending im 14yo again and nothing matters.

In a move that's way behind I've just started Peaky Blinders. I'm in early season 2. I might end up with a soft spot for Birmingham City after this :D

Ted Lasso on Apple TV is wonderful!

its ok. A lot of the jokes are recycled from the YouTube Spurs bit. But it’s got potential. I’m still giving it a chance.

Amazing, so good.

As i said in my review of the first season, i really enjoy the character development and seeing the 2019 families vs how they came to be when you flashed back to their 1986 versions. It was a lot of fun (for me at least). My only issue with season 1 as I mentioned was ok it's all based on a paradox of mikkel going back and becoming jonas' father. In hindsight i suppose it wasn't a paradox as his loop is for the most part linear. Neilson's have a kid who goes back in time to become khanwald. He doesn't sire himself so its fine (i suppose, idk im not overthinking it).

Season 2 i wasn't a huge fan of at the time. The idea that there are multiple worlds sort of fighting for dominance became taxing.

Season 3 makes season 2 bearable and much more interesting. I now like the idea of two worlds influencing each other in a loop. Actions in one to try and end the loop start the actions in the other to continue the loop and so on. The paradox problem I thought i had in season one actually becomes a major one in season 3 because people going back to 1800s to sire families which eventually sire themselves is a major paradox. Im sure its all a logical mess, but I wash it all away with the idea that these two worlds are fake and they are in and of themselves just a split off from the original third world.

I love the idea that the two worlds are just a kernel of life created from the event in the original third world. I'm trying not to over think it but for me i think a lot of the paradoxes can be overlooked due to the fact that this is its own universe created and self contained so any developments that are weird and illogical stay contained within this environment. Its fun so just let it be.

But to that end, I do take slight exception to the solution that the end of the loops created would be that two characters that don't really exist would be able to travel back to a point where not only do they not exist but they are also able to enter a point which "time travel" isn't opened yet. Such that, to end their loops they stop the event that creates them. So in the end they are sort of the paradox issue with in my review of season 1. But it happens so late and I enjoyed the show so much up to this point that I let it go and enjoyed the finale. The sadness of losing all the interesting characters they evolved is a sort of good sting that i enjoy from stories like this regardless of how illogical it gets.
