Elementary? At its heart it is an old style major network episodic mystery show, a little on the quirky side so a bit like Monk or The Mentalist, but IMO the best writing of that lot and time period, and spends less time winking at the audience. What really sets it apart IMO is the relationship between Holmes and Watson. It's among the very best depictions of non-romantic love between unrelated friends, and it develops over time. I also think Jonny Lee Miller is superb in the role and Lucy Liu nearly as strong. I'm on S3 of my rewatch. With seven seasons and 150+ episodes, there's also inevitably some variance in episode quality.
Ooooooooh. Now I see my mistake.

The show you just described sounds nothing like a comedy about a bunch of 3rd grade teachers. I was confused.

I wonder if I should give this another try. Wife and I got through 3 episodes I think and just found it bland.

I've been a fan of Johnny Lee Miller since Trainspotting. I actually prefer his Holmes to Cumberbatch. He's still an eccentric jerk but somehow manages to still be likeable IMO.

Not usually one for actor interviews, but I found this interesting. Spoilers for season two (and book two).

Well, nuts. Just saw that they cancelled Wheel of Time after season 3.

It’s a shame. I don’t read the books but the show was getting better. I felt that they were finally hitting a stride with it
It definitely got better but the actors would have all been in their 80s by the time they finished at the rate seasons were coming out 😆

Ok. As I deal with my disappointment that the WOT series is over after 3 seasons it got me thinking about other fantasy TV shows worth watching. I looked at this list of top 20 all time and have only seen Stranger Things and GOT. Most of the others I've never even heard of.

Anyone have any fave fantasy TV show outside of GOT, WOT, Stranger Things you'd recommend?

I’m sure this has been discussed here before but I was a big fan of Lost and happy with the ending

LOST is a great show. I did not like the ending. But, the journey to get there was fantastic. I watched it during the original airing and remember episodes where you go 49 mins and think "this episode is kinda meh.." and then your mind is blown and you're stuck cursing the fact that you have to wait a week for the next episode.

I agree completely. I think the world is split between people who hated the ending and people who loved the ending, but we can all agree that besides season three that show was incredible the entire time.

I don’t wanna post any spoilers here, but my brother who hated the ending of lost came up with a much better ending, and I kind of wish it had gone the way he proposed

Definitely post his ending!! Use the spoiler setting to keep it hidden. (Under the three dots next to the art palette for font colors.)

I loved Lost. Was perfectly happy with the ending. I thought it fit the show as a whole. Definitely felt the agony of watching it week to week. Then binged it a second time with my daughter when she was at a good age for it. Was one of our best bonding activities at an age when she otherwise wasn't too eager to spend time with me.

I had the advantage of not watching Lost until it was over and I had enough sense of the ending without fully being spoiled that I was not disappointed, because in a loose sense I knew what was coming. I fully recommend it. In fact I would generalize from my experience (which I try not to do too much) and say if you know about the initial negative reaction to the ending you will be somewhat inoculated from your own disappointment.

Separately, I just binged the first season of the AppleTV+ series Murderbot. I recommend. I read the full series of books, which I prefer, mostly because the TV version is not able to fully recreate the wonderful interior monologue of the title character, such as:

"So, I’m awkward with actual humans. It’s not paranoia about my hacked governor module, and it’s not them; it’s me. I know I’m a horrifying murderbot, and they know it, and it makes both of us nervous, which makes me even more nervous."
And
"At least Mensah and Arada had overruled the ones who wanted to talk to me about it. Yes, talk to Murderbot about its feelings. The idea was so painful I dropped to 97 percent efficiency."
They capture some of this in the TV series but it's not the same level. It can't be the same because of the differences between visual and language based art forms. But I recommend both, with a slight caveat that I thought the book series got slightly worse over time.

Also I don't always prefer the book(s). I enjoyed The Expanse more on TV than the novels, and the same is true of Slough House.
Also also Murderbot has been renewed for a second season, but the first ends on a satisfying enough resolution of things so far.
