2018 just ended so we head to 2019 (and more disappointment) and since i like this tournament and history I made another thread

Qualifying rounds have started already for the Amateur teams ( not including NPSL/PDL). 72 Amateur teams started in first qualifying round ( down from 108 last year, perhaps due to new deposit/ bond policy implemented to prevent forfeits)

    Results:

Second Round Draw made and matchups made for Second Qualifying round to be played in October:

Well see how the new USL leagues ( USL 1/2) get implemented and if they allow B team Cosmos/ Armada/ Miami teams to play bypassing rules again in 2019.

Unfortunately, no luck this year for the local amateur sides (or for us getting local away cup draws)
New York Pancyprian-Freedoms and Lansdowne Yonkers (formerly Bhoys) were both bounced in qualifying

Brooklyn Italians, Rough Riders, Cosmos B, and Red Bull U-23 will still be possibilities from the professional ranks at this point

So which comes first? Open cup win, getting past the eastern conference semis or a stadium?

Honestly, with our homegrown situation, getting past EC semis seems first. Open cup win and stadium coming in pretty close.

Eta - oh maybe you meant one win not the whole thing.

ok so i have been WAY behind on this so here is quick tweets of summaries of the rounds

Qualifying Round two results back in October

Qualifying Round Three results - FYI Christos FC is out, local cosmopolitan team New York Pancyprian Freedoms out

Fourth and last qualifying round for the regional amateur teams spots.

It seems like its even less teams this year for these amateur teams to make it to the tournament proper. The reason is more due to USL 1 coming to existence as well as bunch of new USL championship teams, and taking up more spots. In a way it sucks as there is less of chance of a christos fc for example to play against an MLS team.

The 2019 "rulebook" has been uploaded. Apparently USSF will broadcast more of the tournament this year. so much they asking teams that host to have space for a production car and proper lighting in stadium etc. well see who the broadcasting partner is.

I'd watch a lot more of it if I didn't have to watch janky streams

Yup, but would be a better quality, and on a better platform.

Last year I had to navigate to the usoc website on my smart tv's internet browser, and then find the game there and the full screen option was just odd.

I'd much rather just use the ESPN+ app to handle it all.

When do we find out who we're going to embarrassingly crash out against?

It would be peak NYCFC Open Cup results to draw our U19 team and lose to them.

That broadcast deal has to be ESPN+, considering they also do MLS, USL, and a bunch of other American soccer. Virtually zero chance it's anyone else.

With these two rules changes, the loophole that the three NASL teams fielding teams in the NPSL (New York Cosmos, Miami FC, and Jacksonville Armada FC) used to enter last year’s tournament, is now closed.

So no Cosmos this year? Or just their loophole to get in last year was closed?
This means our green card players don't count as domestics for USOC?

Following suit of other cup competitions, a fourth substitution is now allowed in extra time.

    Intersting.

I don’t see how they could lock players out that have green cards. That’s a federally instituted work/live status, and it’s part of the path to citizenship; different from a work visa. Would think any attempt to would result in litigation.

ok, so this just focuses on Canadians without a green card who care considered domestics under MLS rules.

No. It wasn’t just that the LAFC player had a green card. It was something more unusual. I don’t recall exactly, but I think it had something to do with Canada. MLS rules allow players who are domestics in Canada to be domestics in the league. The US Open Cup rules do not.

ETA: Adam beat me by a minute.

i think its just the loophole ( which was made up anyway, just made up reason for them to be allowed in) they used for cosmos, miami, and jacksonville thats gone. basically this year they qualified via NPSL standings since thats where they played last year.
