2016 Mls College Superdraft

Great job by FootyLovin

The draft will remain important. There are only so many academies for kids to come through. You have 1,000 miles between Portland and San Jose. Another 250 miles between San Jose and LA.

Then you have Phoenix. West Texas. The entire Gulf Coast. The entire Midwest outside of Kansas City. Lots of players out there.

But if the college system doesn't improve, college players are going to be left way behind the skill level of academy graduates. For example, I expect NYCFC's best academy team to kick the shit out of the best college teams in the country. Top college players would be quite average academy players.

I don't think TMac outworks Mullins. I think Mullins is one of the hardest workers on the team. It just looks like TMac is because he doesn't know how to run properly and flails his arms around.

I saw Mac play at Brown where you can stand about 5 yards from the touch line. When he came busting down the wing, you could hear him snort like a bull ... probably because he runs so crazily like you describe.

As a team an Academy will play better simply by virtue of unrestricted practice time, but the best college teams pull players from all over the country, and some of them are quite skilled kids - ones that are not in an area to be picked up by an academy. Additionally, the best Academy players would be 17-18 yo whereas college teams would have guys up to 22-23 if they redshirt - don't discount the advantages of being more physically mature and how that plays with strength and endurance. The Academy teams would win far more than they'd lose, but I don't think it's be as lopsided as you make it out to be.

He needs better conditioning.
I've been saying that about the entire team since the beginning of last season - their conditioning coaches were doing something wrong since all too often we'd fade badly as a team before the 80th minute - not just a guy or two but the entire team. Plus, there are too many guys with poor running form/mechanics, and then there were all of the soft-tissue injuries away from contact or in practice. I hope PV revamps the entire conditioning program because otherwise he's going to flip out when he sees the above mentioned crap take place on a regular basis.

Presuming we don't trade away our pick at least this means we will have another player. It looks like we're avoiding signing anyone this offseason. It's a risky strategy but lets see if it works out for them cotton.

The one thing I learned from my favorite childhood show Scooby Doo, the more you flail your arms the faster you run. Apparently Tommy Mac also liked Scooby Doo.
Scooby & Shaggy were also perpetually stoned....

I hope "failed his physical" is code for Reyna telling him to stay away so nobody else drafts him and he slips to #4.
Was there a report that JH failed his physical and/or didn't play, or was NickA just being hopeful?

The college ranks are full of academy players too. Not all of them want HG status or will be offered HG status.

I think you guys are confusing your terms. Academy U23 teams are made up of college players. They play a summer season after the college season. Academy U18 teams are high school players, most of whom go on to play college after they graduate.
