Awuah called up to CanMNT for a friendly the 13th of June.
Interesting. Would only rule him out for the US Open Cup game, I think.
Tommy Mac? Is Matthew Doyle secretly running us soccer?Congrats to Sean Johnson and Tommy MAC on being named to the preliminary 40-man Gold Cup USMNT roster!
Less worried about McNamara with Herrera coming back and the introduction of Lewis.
What dates potentially would Johnson be away for?
The Jesse Gonzalez callup really confuses me when the guy has basically declared himself for Mexico. It's going to be Bendick/Hamid/SJ for the third spot. I think Hamid when healthy is the best American keeper in MLS, but when healthy is the key phrase. I could see any of those three being the choice. Maybe even two of them if Guzan has a bad camp.Thank you.
Interesting thing regarding Johnson will be where he falls in the GK pecking order. If he's 6th, he may go to camp and miss the 29th. Then he may be released.
Apparently, the Mexican media propped up Jesse for Mexico to the point that everyone thought it was a done deal, but his agent and Jesse have been all USA in the recent past. Feels weird because of the way the story was portrayed, but it was all fake news from the beginning. The Jesse Gonzalez callup really confuses me when the guy has basically declared himself for Mexico. Edit: People are reporting that he has chosen the U.S. and will accept the callup?
He should choose Mexico, honestly. He'd have a better chance to make an impact. I don't see him ever beating out Horvath.Apparently, the Mexican media propped up Jesse for Mexico to the point that everyone thought it was a done deal, but his agent and Jesse have been all USA in the recent past. Gold Cup runs from July 7 to July 26.
Games around then are...
June 29 vs. Minnesota
July 5 @ Vancouver
July 19 vs. Toronto
July 22 vs. Chicago
July 30 @ Toronto
Nice to play Toronto twice in that stretch when we know both Bradley and Altidore will be gone (provided the USMNT goes to the final). Hopefully we have Johnson back from duty and are at full strength - that could be a solid 6pt smash/grabGold Cup runs from July 7 to July 26.

I'm torn on that. I'll take the advantage, but also wanted a 100% vs 100% test. I think there is substantial doubt that we see a Gold Cup squad with either Bradley or Altidore. This is the cycle where the U.S. and Mexico feature their "B teams". Mexico will be prepping for the Confed Cup. We will want our guys to get good club play while we focus on the qualifiers.
Four years ago in this cycle is when Donovan came back to the national team and fairly dominated the tournament. Sean Johnson actually started in goal and got a clean sheet in a group stage game against Costa Rica. 22-year-old Mix Diskerud got a goal.
Long story short, we might be missing more people than Toronto, especially considering the potential losses of Matarrita and Wallace.
Am I out of order saying Altidore and Bradley belong on our USMNT B team?
