That's either a crazy, choppy translation, or the PR writer needs to work on the fluidity of their writing.

It was translated from Croatian, so I'd presume Google translate took the literal definition of the word. Semantics, probably how Croatians refer to outside backs (RB, LB).

One of the comments mentioned RJ Allen being the only other RB we have too, so some Croatians have some knowledge of MLS.

The team needs cover here and now, but they probably don't want to screw up any 2018 transfer plans (I assume they have them blocked out or at least thought about, but who am I kidding?) by signing this unknown/out-of-contract guy to a long stay with us.

Slovenian, not Croatian, although the languages are very close. From spending just a couple of minutes playing with the article and Google Translate, that phrase comes from the following:

V klubu iščejo bočnega branilca,

Which appears can be broken down as follows:

They / club / is seeking / on the side (or laterally) / defender

So perhaps a more accurate translation is:

The club happens to be looking for a defender
 
Club hasn't said anything about White, right? This leads me to believe that he heard a pop and he's out for a looooong time.

not to be mr. smarmy-pants (even though i very much am) but your slashes are not the literal breakdown of that phrase. V is not translated to they, but rather it its forms the syntax for the preposition "in the club". There are no articles in croatian/serbian/solvenian like there are in the romantic language sets (i.e. il club in italian) so the club itself is just klub but saying 'in the club' is 'u klubu', adding the u before and attaching an u to the noun itself (this is the croatian form, I am assuming Slovenian uses V from your quote). The 'they' is an assumed pronoun from the conjugation of the verb 'to seek' (this being similar structure to how romantic languages conjugate verbs), the rest is I assume the literal translation of side and defender.

Of course I might be wrong because I am born and bred American, who only tried to dabble in my father's tongue 10 years ago. Anything I learned from self education has likely faded and become corrupted, but i do feel I am 90% correct in my assessment. I only interject cause i get excited when our little region of Europe gets mentioned.

not to be mr. smarmy-pants.... again, but if i were a siberian husky from siberia, I'd likely speak chukchi. I mean, sure, there is a chance i might understand russian, but i'd probably be chillin with the tribe of nomadic people that raised me. And if you asked me if spoke russian i'd shrug and say, whats russia? oh you mean the language of those european guys from other side of the ural mountains that said they own all this land in asia. Land that they make jokes about, never develop, or visit unless they want test their military weapons. Land where my hooman friends lived long before they came and said we were apparently a part of some soviet union, but when my peeps said no they massacred them eerily similar to the plight of the native americans on a continent i have never seen but somehow I know about. No I don't speak russian, but my english is pretty good yes?

so if we hypothetically can only sign on of our two trialists, what's the better pick? CB to staunch the bleeding and be there in case we get hit by the injury bug again? or the upgrade (possibly?) to RB?
