2018 Roster Discussion

Why not before? Sell more concessions. Ease the traffic in. Make it a whole day thing. Allow re-entry, give the local entrepreneurs a shot in the arm.

Maybe the field wouldn't be able to take it? No idea really.
I mentioned “why not before,” in the post. Playing the B-side before the important game could end up using players that need to play with the first team if there’s a late scratch or a specific tactical substitution. Why tie the coaches hands ahead of time?

Sorry, I totally missed that.

Here's the thing - playing Seconds after the Firsts is guaranteed to be sub-optimal Playing Seconds before Firsts may suck a little bit (modulo my open question about field conditions), in pretty rate circumstances.

I think we've had maybe 2 or 3 late scratches in 3 seasons, and we probably knew they'd be late scratches. So in those cases maybe we hold back a player or sub them early.

I’d rather not play the odds on needing a particular player for the first team. And I wouldn’t want to hold a player back and then not use them later, because that player could easily be categorized as #12-18, and they definitely need the game minutes whether with the firsts or as the leaders of the seconds.

Ok. I understand that. I think you're optimizing for the corner case to the detriment of the <whatever the not-corner> case is, but that's fine.

Sorry for posting this in two threads, but it's very much a roster question, too. Alex Ring twisted his knee while on (a meaningless) intl duty, and will be out for a longer period.

Ring is no longer allowed on international duty

This is all I found. Terrible Google Translation:

Jere Uronen became ill. Alexander Ring hurt his knees in the practice of dungeoning. Ring wanted to return to the field to try his knee but head coach Markku Kanerva denied.

Kanerva thought that it was not a serious injury, such as a break in the throat.

The ring was bad. He flew from New York to Belek only for the Macedonian match. Now is the way back.

Finland meets with Malta on Monday in Belek.

If Ring wanted to go back on the field, maybe it wasn’t bothering him that much and he thought he could tough it out, but the manager (out of fear to CFG) did the smart thing and sent him home????

Hopefully one of those words should have been translated to bruise.

It's a good sign that they put him right on a plane (if I'm folllowing the story correctly). Usually they want to wait for swelling to go down before they let someone travel. I see no mention of x rays or MRIs. That would have to be done after initial swelling went down and that could take 24-48 hours.

All of that leads me to believe in my non-doctory opinion that it is less serious than we fear. Then again, the injury could have happened days ago and he's already had an MRI for all we know.

Seriously. Has there EVER been a team that has suffered as many injuries as NYCFC over the last year and a half due to international duty? It’s like every freaking player comes back injured. F me.
I’m not sure if any team has had the sheer number of NT players that we’ve had. That said, we have been totally snakebit by NT duty, it’d be comical if we were fans of another team.
