2018 Roster Discussion

Screw him. Never make those comments in season. I hope they send his ass packing. Next man up.

Sounds like they asked him a leading question for a quote. Something along the lines of “Do you feel confident you could play in Europe?” The exact quote they used was: "I am ready for Europe. I feel good and I would really like to make the jump,”. Even had a comma in there. Maybe there was an end to that sentence where he said he’s focused on NYC till it’s time. Don’t jump on the hate wagon for this kid if we don’t have the full story. And I’m the guy who thinks Ofori should start.

Totally fine with that. But he's not lighting up the league this year and he's being pushed by Ofori. Respect the locker room.
Yes, my issue is that his play is oft consistent with someone who is not fully present or committed for whatever reason. That reason could be wholly or partially because he sees himself on a bigger stage and doesn't want to be here. That's very short-sighted and disrespectful to the team and the league. (It may also be wholly or partially because he's just not that good or is really inconsistent).

There are some great photos of Ofori from the RSL game that really struck me - the expressions on his face scream someone who couldn't be more excited to be here. I prefer that.

True, but what if the locker room sees him as an integral part of the starting 11? Remove him and maybe Ring or Maxi aren’t as comfortable because they expect the #8 to be in a certain place as they cycle through their breakout. I have no idea how they feel about rotation, just playing devils advocate.

Don't some player loans have fees associated with a player being recalled to the owning club before the completion of the loan? This is ridiculously wishful and I'm sure the MLS would block it but what if CFG put a big clause like that in the Herrera loan, they will have to pay NYCFC a big fee when they recall him this summer and we can use it as GAM. I'm laughing at the absurdity of this as I type but it's MLS at this point anything is possible.

All fair points.

This is important to consider in how it came up.

I'll give two examples of items that got blown way out of proportion in the media from my favorite NFL team, the Steelers.

In 2007, the year the Patriots went undefeated in the regular season, a reporter asked rookie Anthony Smith about the upcoming game. He stated that if the Steelers did everything they are capable of, that they should be able to win the game (not a ridiculous thing to say). The reporter then followed that up with, "Are you saying you're guaranteeing a win?" And the rookie fell for the bait and said yes. Then everyone went nuts talking about his guarantee as if he held a press conference himself to declare that they would win.

Then this last season, Tony Dungy interviewed Mike Tomlin for an interview that aired prior to a SNF game (don't remember exactly who they were playing that night). Dungy asked questions about all sorts of things and then asked about the game the Steelers had a few weeks later with the Patriots. Tomlin answered saying it would be a big game and really exciting. Interview ends and Rodney Harrison states its ridiculous that Tomlin is looking ahead to the Patriots when he should be focusing on their current opponents. The media goes nuts running with that narrative when all he did was answer a question asked to him about an upcoming game.

Making news rather than reporting it.

Two deals involve NYCFC.

1) Moving TMac to Philly for Allocation Money - yes, please in a heartbeat make that happen
2) Moving Lewis to Columbus - ehhhh, probably not, but would depend on what the return is IMO. The interesting thing of note here that I've completely missed is that Lewis has a British passport. (though, I'm not sure what they're referring to when they mention Lewis showing up late to team event, I cannot find any of these "reports" through a quick google search)

Regarding Lewis. His parents are from Jamaica, so he can get a British passport, right? And regarding showing up late to an event. There was chatter on New York City Football Podcast, part of the NYCFC Nation family of podcasts (http://thenycfcnation.com/category/podcast/) that Lewis showed up late to the City in the Community charity event where people paid $1,000 to get early access to the players for conversations and signatures.

Well, damn.
The pre-event time period wasn't very long, so being late for it it is big deal. Missing any substantial part of it is serious. But we're also at the 1/4 mark of the season. Life sentences don't make much sense for anyone in this context.

He already has a British passport.

And gotcha on that chatter. I listen to the NYCFC Nation podcast, but don't listen to the one they started adding every week with Chavez as I don't think I can handle a whole hour of him every week.

I'm guessing PV makes people work themselves out of the doghouse by training hard or otherwise making up for their misdeeds. JLew probably has not done so yet.

The whole JLewis doghouse thing is kinda bullshit. So the guy messed up. Does that mean he doesn't see the field all year? Who's that really hurting?

It's hard to know what's really going on. We've seen with Mix that when players check into Chateau Bow Wow, Vieira can make sure it is for an extended stay. It could be because he seriously punishes each transgression, or has hard terms for working your way back into a playing role, or simply dislikes players he thinks aren't properly dedicated or any number of possibilities.

I think it's bullshit in another sense: there's more to this than Lewis running late to one event. Entirely possible that Vieira's reasons for icing out Lewis are still bad reasons, but we're going to need somebody to do some reporting on this story.

From what i heard, not sure if it was in the podcast as well, him and patricoff went at it pretty hard at the event. Just doesnt seem smart.
