I'm all for the principle of selling younger players. It's a good thing for the league as a whole, and good for NYCFC. You aren't going to have the Almirons and Medinas coming if you aren't willing to eventually sell them for bigger pastures in Europe. And I definitely don't want a situation like Cyle Larin where he has been wanting to go for a few seasons, it hasn't happened, and now he is burning bridges.
I'm just sad about this particular instance because I wonder if the FO has, or will do enough, to replace his production. Villa has a limited window to win a Cup, and I'd hate to waste it

First, past transfer fees have zero relevance in this scenario. The fact that nobody paid that much years ago doesn’t matter - the league is VASTLY different with young talent now and is recasting itself as a selling league.
Second, let’s compare. All indicators are that Almiron is going to be sold for $20M. He’s 23 years old and had 9 goals, 14 assists = 23 G+A.
Jack is 2 years younger and had 10 goals, 6 assists = 16 G+A.
Based on those numbers, is Miguel Almiron worth four times as much as Harrison for 1.4x the production, considering Almiron is 2 years older? No. Jack should go for $10M.
Premature. He posted nothing inconsistent with what I said or know. There comes a point with these deals where journalists and twitterheads with no knowledge and no sources say "it happened" because it almost certainly will -- soon and eventually -- and then they get to say they were ahead of the curve. That is the stage we are in now. That is why I judge that it probably did happen, or will soon. But that doesn't mean the people reporting it actually know anything more than I do. They're just reading the same signs. That it usually does end up announced soon does not justify their purported statements of fact.
There is nothing revolutionary about Jack Harrison's development. If he was this revolutionary talent, he wouldn't have been playing American college soccer. Jack went to American high school, joined an American pay to play academy, went to an American college, and got draft by the American professional league. Comparing him to previous MLS transfer is perfectly in reason.
Actually, no, your reasoning is exactly why he’s a revolutionary talent. He went to an American Prep school for the education and still excelled enough at the small school to be picked up by one of (if not) the top American university for soccer, where he excelled as a true freshman and earned a coveted GA contract which turned into a Day1 starting gig at the pro level, and by year two he was the second most valuable offensive threat on the second best team in the league.
Jack may never develop into a Grade-A world beater, but he is a serious talent that has excelled while being played out of position and on an island (wing) for a team that doesn’t reward their wings with serviceable aerial targets in the middle. Comparing him to the quality of former transfers out is like comparing an MLS 2.0 team with a 3.0 team. Jack is a 3.0 Transfer Target.

I would scrap the small sample size and look at actual and potential talent and answer yes. I don’t see them as close to comparable, even though I love Jack as a homer.
Perhaps, but Jack’s scoring/assists is actually far more impressive for a winger that doesn’t have a true CF threat to send crosses to (For all Villa is, he is not a threat off of crosses the way a taller, more robust CF is) and is often isolated in the corner; add to it that Jack didn’t have many other scoring threats on the team that could convert his passes.
On the other hand, Almiron was set up in the perfect spot to gain accolades as the attacking midfielder with a slew of scoring options around him to pass to. I’m not saying Jack is a better talent than Almiron, but Jack definitely made the most of difficult tactical positioning (out on an island) stipulated by the club and he effectively did more with less. Unfortunately, Stoke’s valuation of him represents a poor-coffer club lowballing a kid that grew up as a hometown fan/follower.
Lampard was our 2nd goal scorer in 2016, scoring 12 goals. Harrison scored 10 goals in 2017.
Wow, yeah, this one completely missed me. I just remember his pass to Villa vs. Chicago from the right. He's much better on the left and he even said so during the SuperDraft. I wanted him to start over Wallace on the LW. Lewis = LW.
Agree on the difficulties posed by tactics and personnel etc. With that said, I still saw a kid who too often played with his head down, with blinders on and was too one dimensional. Some of that was accentuated by those circumstances, but not all of it. I guess it remains a mystery as to what he brings in a perfect spot in a perfect system.
On a team where he doesn’t have the pressure to lead as a 20yo, and he can be the inconspicuous attacker with 4-5 other competent options, I think he would excel and inflict real damage to opponents. Any bottom-feeder EPL team either won’t have the roster to take the pressure off him, or will be in an absolute win-now mentality which will see the manager turn to seasoned veterans to start over him. Not that Jack has had many opportunities as a sub, but he hasn’t fared well - his game is about going relentlessly at his defender and if only allowed 2-3 chances at the end of a match, odds are he won’t capitalize.
I know he had that great game against LAG on the left, but I thought he impressed more on the right with his performances against Chicago and Philly. I'm not sure I see him as someone who cuts in and shoots with his right. His best talent seems to be getting to the endline and crossing in.
Holy hell man. You make it seem like he was just standing completely far away from anyone else and wasn't receiving help from anyone.
Yes he sometimes got himself into the corner, but that was usually because he dribbled himself there. Remember that PV usually likes his wingers to cut in, and Jack did a lot of that and scored some great goals. He also had the best striker in the league that defenses had to worry about.
As JayH said, I love Jack. I'm not excited to lose him if we do, and even though I'm excited about our new signings, I'm worried whether or not they will be able to replace his production. But lets not act like he was a League Best XI player.

Who said anything about him being a Best11 player. Fine to disagree with me, but don’t twist my words.
Yes, true I exaggerated your point there, though you were comparing him to Almiron (who was a Best11 player). But the way you were describing Jack was portraying his abilities much more than they are.
